2018 NBA Draft - June 21

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
We're tied for #5 pick and not a lot of games left. Who would we take if that holds?

If Cuse's zone is an affront to basketball, then what do you call Coach K's inability to teach 5 NBA prospects to play man to man defense?

A cop out that calls into question K's reputation as a maker of men.

I mean seriously, who the fuck was that at the center of the zone afraid to do anything when he caught it? Why the fuck was Izzo playing him there? Sorry, I can't say Boeheim outcoached him when Izzo is actively sabotaging his team.

Izzo has only had, like, 30 years to figure it out

Anyone watching UMBC? Lyle are can't finish inside right now, although the does get in the lane when he wants. Doesn't look like he has a good three point shot as he doesn't even look to score from behind the line When given space and doesn't shoot anything off the dribble.

Really cheering for them.

For those wondering, Lyles is playing like Kyrie again tonight. Problem is, it's bad Kyrie where he can't get a three to fall and he's got crazy tunnel vision in the lane.

Lyles shoots 46.3% around the rim, 28th percentile.

Kentucky is going to DESTROY whoever wins this game. Amazingly, they're going to get the Final Four after the season they've had.

Really glad Izzo didnt take the Cavs job. Dude isn't a good game coach. Severely outcoached by Boeheim all night long.

Big Syracuse fan here. People don't realize what a great coach Boeheim is. He has never gotten the talent that other top programs have. You can see that by looking at how Syracuse players do in the NBA. The only two NBA all-star talents ever to come through Syracuse in 30+ years under Boeheim were Derrick Coleman and Carmelo, and Boeheim took both of them to the championship game (winning with Carmelo, losing on a last-second shot with Coleman). Everybody else was a midrange talent, most washed out of the NBA (remember the likes of Jonny Flynn or John Wallace), others ranged from bench players to pretty good (the best outside of Carmelo + Coleman were Ronny Seikaly, Sherman Douglas, maybe Dion Waiters but hard to tell yet).

BTW, my #1 favorite thing to read on the internet after Syracuse pulls off a tournament upset is butthurt fans of other teams ranting and raving about how Syracuse shouldn't be allowed to run a zone. Keep it going, @czvo !

No one is saying they shouldn't be allowed to run zone. It works for them. I just want to watch good basketball, and Syracuse is the antithesis of that (and yeah, you can put some of that blame on opposing teams because they can't figure out how to beat a freaking zone).

I'm going to push back on the "Boeheim doesn't get talent" though. He does get talent. He just wastes it by pushing that zone on them. Every so often they make a run to the final four, but he hasn't been nearly as successful as the other top coaches.

He's also just a terrible fucking person, so he's got that going for him.

Sums up my feelings on Boeheim. Cavsfever, are you an alum of Cuse?

Would actually be fun to see what Gilgeous-Alexander can do against Maura, I think. He could struggle against smaller, quicker defenders in the NBA because he's not a good enough shooter to pull up and shoot over them, and he's not strong enough to bully past them into the paint. Maura is obviously the most extreme example of a tiny, pesky, relentless PG defender.

Apologies to everyone in this thread. My main issue is with Boeheim, no so much playing zone. Fuck Boeheim.
