Cleveland Browns Quarterback Position

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
It’s incredible.

No GMs have come out and stated their affinity for the guy beyond his arm. He won’t be the first guy to be grossly over drafted based on projection and a ceiling he’ll certainly never reach.

Well, how about this: is it out of the question that he ends up sliding on draft night or is that just an impossibility in today's QB driven league? I'm not trying to rip anyone who wants to shill for Allen, fuck it, that's fine- but it's a legitimate question. Where is all this, "The NFL thinks he's a great prospect" stuff coming from? All I hear that from is Mel Kiper and the mock draft pundits like him that keep mocking Allen to the Browns for some inexplicable reason.

What is the indicator that Josh Allen is going top 5, top 10, or even in the first round? Because he is being mocked there?

I think it's similiar to what we saw with Trubisky last year.

They kept linking us to him all during the process, and while I think it could have very well happened? It just never really did.

Which ever agent this guy signed must be incredible and world class. I've never seen someone create this level of hype purely out of thin air.

The obsessive QB hunting has always pushed guys up draft boards without much warrant.

It’s a time honored tradition.

To me, Allen could go anywhere from 2 on next week. Some team could believe they’re smarter than the rest of the league and take him thinking that can pull off an Eliza Doolittle.

Why do people keep saying “the NFL” as though they all believe the same thing about a prospect? As if they’re some sort of collective body.

As we blissfully discuss “arrogance” playing the biggest role in social media amateur scouting ruining the sterling reputation of the NFL, I wonder if those so offended by others negative opinions of obviously flawed players were this adamant with regards to the obviously flawed players “the NFL” considered early picks.

The Manziel’s, the Jake Locker’s, Blaine Gabbert’s.

Even the Brandon Weeden’s...

Weeden may be my least favorite draft pick of all time (common ground!)

Weeden - April 19, 2012
IMO, drafting Weeden is a trap and the team that does it will be looking at drafting another QB next year minus a 1st/2nd round pick from 2012.

I seriously cannot, CANNOT wait until the draft is over and Weeden is (hopefully) on another team. The thought of us wasting a 1st/2nd on him makes me nauseous.

Manziel - Jan 8, 2014
Even pretending there aren't legitimate questions about Manziel's game translating to the NFL level (and there are plenty), I still want nothing to do with him.

Why would we take one of the most volatile, cocky, controversial players in college football and install him as the face of our franchise in a position that demands leadership? If he's like this in college, how's he going to be once he gets a big contract and his celebrity gets cranked up a few more notches? His attitude is fun and exciting when he's winning but how is he going to handle losing, especially with a fanbase that has mentally broken plenty of QBs before him?

Manziel is the kind of guy you draft if you have a stable organizational structure and solid locker room to stop him from self-destructing... I can't even begin to imagine how many different ways this could go wrong.

Here's hoping Jacksonville bails us out and takes him to sell tickets. I haven't rooted this hard for another team to take a player before us since Weeden.

I think I liked Locker after the 2009 season before he regressed hard and was turned off to him. Don't recall having any specific feelings about Gabbert honestly.

Dustin Fox hearing the coaches might not be all that high on Darnold...

Frankly, I don't want to hear about who Hue wants. He moves the goal-posts so much that I can't value his opinion at any one time. Maybe Haley doesn't like him, but oh well. I don't think Dorsey is going to acquiesce the most important decision he'll make as the Browns' GM for a while to the coaches. Even after this stuff from Fox, I don't think Rosen or Darnold are out.

Other than it not being Josh Allen, it's tough to really nail down which way they're leaning at this point.

If nothing else, that's a pretty good job well done by Dorsey.

That said, I'm terrified he's trying to outsmart everyone instead of taking the layup.

I don't know if they'll actually pick him, but I've long thought Mayfield has a much better chance of being the pick than everyone has been led to believe.

We know Scot McCloughan absolutely loves him and John Dorsey scouted him in person six times.

We'll have to see.

They linked us to him but at the #12 pick. There were a couple of quacks saying we might take him over Garrett but for quite a while, even as late as early April, the consensus was that we could have him at 12. Later on in the process he rose a bit, appearing more likely to go in the top 10 than not. We may have been appropriately tied to him but there wasn't much to be said after the Bears did what they did.

I totally agree with this. I think Mayfield is MUCH higher on their board than the media thinks. I also think Allen is a total smoke screen. If the Browns take Mayfield #1 overall that would be a masterful job of playing the disinformation game. I don't think he's the correct pick at #1, I think Darnold or Rosen are better than he is. However; Mayfield has the potential in my opinion to be the best QB from this draft. Darnold and Rosen IMO have a higher chance at it than Mayfield but I can see scenarios where he is. I would be absolutely shocked if Allen is the best QB from this class (or even the 2nd best).

I've long thought Mayfield is more in this than people realize. Dustin Fox, Nathan Zegura, even Allbright (who's been steadfast on Darnold at 1) a couple days ago gave some wiggle room that Darnold may not be the pick at 1.

Not sure if this has been put in here, but Alonzo Highsmith favorited this tweet (literally out of nowhere)
^^He wasn't even remotely involved in this conversation but favorited this tweet regarding his opinion of Mayfield.
