2018 NBA Draft - June 21

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
To follow up, he apparently believes that if the Hawks remain at 5, they're taking Trae Young and that would push Porter Jr down to the Cavs.

If the Hawks end up in the top 3, they're taking one of the elite prospects and Young would fall to Cleveland.

From playing around with it a bit, it seems like the Cavs board is as follows:

Ayton
Doncic
Jackson
???
Porter Jr
Young

Not sure how high he has us ranking Porter Jr and Young on our big board.

Think it's pretty likely this guy gets taken late 2nd. Euro class is garb beyond the top few, so the pickings get slim for teams looking for stashes. It's impossible to find contract info on these guys, so I don't know if he'll be under contract for next year.

Those are the 52 guys I've done so far.Gunna do Moritz Wagner next.

Really want to do Jarred Vanderbilt too, but seems NBA is lukewarm on him (ESPN has him at #63). Sagaba Konate in the same boat. I can see having both in my top 30.

Would love suggestions for who else to work on who have a decent shot at staying in the draft that you don't see.

On the topic of stashes, I noted that Amine Noua looks kind of interesting a couple weeks back. Hard to get much video on him, but appears to be a very solid glue guy in the French League. I can see a team picking him over Kulboka in the second round depending on need.

Yea I've watched a bit on him. I don't really buy his shooting from NBA range at all. And he's a little undersized at the 4. I agree though that teams will probably like him over Kulboka in most cases just because they value athleticism so much. There's just nobody I really like late besides Goga

I don't buy it either, at least not yet, but his improvement in that area is remarkable (3/13 from deep last year with 51% foul shooting, 40/116 so far this year with 66% foul shooting). Stash him, and if that jumpshot keeps improving over the next few years, you've got yourself an NBA player.

His form is ass though. Would expect it to actually regress next year if I were to put my money on it lol. I think he'll get taken though. Have you watched Karim Jallow at all?

How is it relative to last year, though? Most guys who shoot in the mid-60's from the line have some sort of major issue with their shooting form. But it's a far cry from being a 50% free throw shooter. He seems highly dedicated, at the very least, to making an outside shot part of his game.

And, I kind of wrote Jallow off because if at age 21 he's not good enough to earn minutes in the German league, how good could he be? Of course, he's playing for a top team, so that partly explains the lack of minutes...so maybe my argument is overly simplistic. What say you?

Noua only took 13 threes last year in 61 games and made 3 of them lol. Last year's was a little bit better on the back end. I really like Matthias Lessort, who Philly took. They're in a #'s crunch trying to get cap space so not entirely sure when he'll come over though.

I haven't really watched Jallow which is why I was curious. Sounds like it's his size/frame is at an NBA level and that's primarily what would get him drafted. But he can't shoot

Yeah, that's my point. His jumpshot is far from perfect, but it seems to be lightyears better than it was just a year ago. Another year of practice...another big step forward? That'd be the hope with him, anyway...

Lack of playing time for Jallow is a massive red flag for me. If he's still a year or more away from earning rotation minutes in the German league, how many years away is he from earning rotation minutes in the NBA? Seems like he might be hopelessly behind the curve skill-wise.

EDIT: And yeah, Lessort and Bolden are definitely two of the most interesting young guys in Europe right now. Very jealous of the 76ers there...

Yeah it's so hard to project a guy's shooting projection. He needs it though to be an NBA level player because he's a little undersized at the 4. He's worth a stash though I agree. If the shot falls off next year then you just cut your losses lol.

Bolden is intriguing, though I think people are starting to overhype him a bit. He's a great defender, but he'd probably have to play exclusively with a great rebounding C due to his frame. Not sure what he gives you on offense either.

I wasn't a big fan of Anžejs Pasečņiks either in the draft, but he's still interesting. I think he benefitted some from the post-hype Porzingis train lol (just like Bender did).

I didn't even realize that Jallow was in the Pro B league in Germany lol. That's pretty bad. He's putting up big #'s though.

ESPN updated their mock for Lottery-eve. They had Trae Young pretty much locked into ATL at the 4th/5th pick for the last month or so, but they moved off that.

8. Cleveland Cavaliers (via Nets)

Trae Young

Age:

Height: 6-2 | Weight: 176

Cleveland's sweep of Toronto and the renewed chemistry that appears to have been forged between LeBron Jamesand the rest of the roster seems to bode well for the Cavaliers' prospects of keeping the NBA's most dominant player.

Continuing to stockpile young talent that King James is excited about certainly wouldn't hurt Cleveland's pitch, and it just so happens that one of the most talented players in the draft could be sitting here at No. 8. Young plays a huge position of need for this squad, which has cycled through more than a half-dozen guard options over the course of the season. If Young is gone, one of the many frontcourt players -- such as Carter, Bamba, Porter or either one of the Bridges -- could also be attractive.

Starting salary: $4,033,800

Don't hate the idea of drafting Young as long as it's bundled with a roster-wide rejiggering that brings in at least a couple of really good defensive players.

And I don't think Bolden and Lessort are necessarily overwhelming talents, but I do think it's super smart to have them developing in Euroleague rather than in D-League. They're learning good habits over there, and they're getting experience playing games that matter in front of fans that care.

And yeah, Pro B is super bad. According to that article I posted a while ago (link below), it's a lower competition level than even the weakest NCAA conference, somewhere between the Filipino league and the Kazakhstani league. So take those stats with an appropriately sized grain of salt :chuckle:

Pretty massive article on the draft Bigs by Aldridge with tons of scout/exec quotes.

I just finished reading this and was about to post it. Ayton should be the #1 pick depending on what team is drafting there. Even still I think he's the only player in the draft who I can see a team trading up to take at #1. My goodness if we get the #1 pick (C'mon Nicky) A front court of LeBron, Love, and Ayton would be sick. You absolutely cannot pass that up. There's not a player available who's worth passing up Ayton for unless it's Kawhi but even then you have to have so many assurances that I find it really hard to pass on Ayton.
