Fallout: 76

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Yeah but Fallout > Dying Light.... That shit ain't Fallout!
That's a matter of opinion. The new Dying light has Chris Avellone on staff. Dying light has great co-op, but the story isn't that great. Apparently it's better in the DLC. That might change now with Chris on board:

"In Dying Light 2, you'll carry out missions for factions around the gorgeous, overgrown, post-apocalyptic cities, and what you decide to do will have noticeable ramifactions on how the world evolves."

If it's anything like other survival games, the quests will probably revolve around gathering supplies to build newer and better shit until eventually you get bored and find a different game.

That... sucks.

Just don’t understand how there is no co-op/multiplayer full fledged story based open world RPGs yet.

It's expensive and doesn't really have a broad base of support outside of those who already play MMOs as it is.

Most Fallout players do not want anything to do with an Online-Only game style. So if Bethesda doesn't provide some sort of offline, or immersive solo mode in this game, it likely won't do very well with the traditional fanbase. However, it might take off among other FPS-shooter fans or Destiny fans, etc..

We'll see.

There is, divinity original sin 1 and 2, never winter series, borderlands 1 and 2, dying light, shadow warrior 2.

Personally, I don't really think story-based open world games really work with co-op, because a lot of what makes games like that work is just getting immersed in the world, and it's hard to do that if you've got other people around breaking the illusion. Further, I think having other people around encourages action, and sometimes you don't want to push forward in a game like Elder Scrolls. Sometimes you just want to wander around and see what you find. That's why they work so well as isolated single-player experiences.

I think co-op is best in games with a minimal focus on story, dialogue, and cut-scenes. Like, Vermintide 2 has a story, to be sure, but it's in the background for the most part. You see that with similar games like Borderlands and Left 4 Dead. They work because they are relatively constant action that keeps the players engaged and working together.

None of those games is really anything like Fallout or Elder Scrolls, though. Divinity is more about creating a character and role-playing as him or her, and it's not really an open world game either. I didn't play Neverwinter, but as I recall, wasn't that similar in that it wasn't very story focused like other D&D style games? The same is true of Borderlands. It has a story, but it's mostly just a loot collectathon like Diablo. The story is there, but outside of some funny dialogue it's not what I would call important or necessary. It's more of a basic idea to justify going around, killing an entire planet's worth of creatures, and collecting newer and better loot.

I think part of what makes Fallout and Elder Scrolls stand out is that sense of vastness and isolation. You're alone in a hostile world and your job is to explore it and unlock its secrets. I just don't see that working that well with co-op.

Have you bored of sea of thieves yet?

I don't consider Sea of Thieves to be a survival game. It's totally different. You don't build things. You don't need to do anything to stay alive. There's no crafting. When you die, you respawn thirty seconds later with all the stuff you had when you died. Sea of Thieves is basically just an open world multi-player shooter with some PvE elements.

I dunno.. those games wouldn't really fit the description, at least not what I think @Triplethreat is talking about... I would imagine he's referring to something like Skyrim but fully MMO; not like ESO. So take Skyrim, and just make it so that people can log into a shared experience -- dozens, hundreds, etc on the same server in the same world.

I think sea of thieves has what makes the pvp survival arenas fun without al it of the tedious stuff. You’re fighting players for resources in an open arena if you will.

Dying light 2 is his best bet. Open world, story driven quests where your actions change the world and completely co-op.

Now if you want a story driven mmo the Star Wars the old republic is an option... Or even eso. ESO has quests with good lore.

I don't think that's really comparable though; not to something like Fallout or Skyrim but with multiplayer.

I think that's exactly the point .. ESO and TOR are perfect examples of games that fall insanely short of their single-player variants.

Compare Skyrim to ESO ... it's a joke. Compare KOTOR to TOR... There's been hundreds of pages of people lamenting the fact that Bioware still hasn't just replaced TOR with KOTOR or made a game like KOTOR that's an MMO.

These games aren't anything like their single-player games.

Every new expansion for swtor is just story drive content. They have given up on doing raids and other mmo trappings. I hear it’s quite good actually.

Haven’t played eso, but a lot of people that like Skyrim say the game is in a great state now.

-Fallout 76 has more people working on it now than Bethesda has ever had on a project
-There is a quest line
-Still sounds like there are no human NPCs, and any NPCs will be robots
-Every character you see will be another real person
-They're still working on balancing PvP. It doesn't sound like it can be completely turned off, but he hinted there will be a way to keep it from being the forefront
-VATS will return, but be in real time
-Bethesda will continue to add content to 76 after release
-76 will have some kind of mod support, but not at release
-Private world will be a thing, but probably not until after launch

For a really bad game that is nothing at all like KOTOR.

I've played TOR quite extensively. I've played and beat KOTOR 1 & 2 every possible way imaginable. There isn't anything about either game that I'm not familiar with... TOR is a joke by comparison. It's not even close.

When people heard TOR was coming out, I remember being so fucking hyped.. like wow.. They're about to get Star Wars Galaxies right .. it'll be KOTOR but multiplayer.. OMG..

Then we got TOR.

Might be the most disappointing let down in all of videogames.

Yeah... I mean, ESO is a decent game if you like ESO -- but it's nothing at all like Skyrim. It's not really anything like any of the modern Elder Scrolls games (Morrowind, Oblivion, Skyrim) etc.. It's much much more like World of Warcraft -- so there's a confluence of players who like MMORPGs in that style who come into Elder Scrolls and would think "oh, this is a more casual kind of WoW.. cool." But for those of us from TES, the game is totally unplayable...

I guess if you're not super familiar with the games it's hard to really point out the difference -- but, there's no way you could go from Skyrim to ESO and feel like it was a similar experience. It's not .. not remotely.
