Corey Coleman

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I haven't said much because I was hoping I was wrong, but I have yet to see much promise in Coleman. Not really upset he is gone, Calloway is going to be better if he stays on the field.

I thought you were dealing out a passive-aggressive comment towards people who lament Sashi's 1) failure to build anything at all; and 2) protect him as if he did something very well.
I don't care about the past/Sashi anymore. All I care about is the Browns winning. I like a lot of what Dorsey has done, but I'm not sure I agree with trading him away (and I think its too early to call him a bust), assuming there isn't something behind the scenes going on that we don't know about.

I don't know why people want to come on here and gloat. Like cool man. Don't we all want the same thing here? IDC if I like or don't like a coach/GM/player. I'm still rooting for them to succeed.

I think everyone can agree it sucks that Coleman has to go to an even worse weather city, with even worse QB play than the Browns had last year, :bigshock:

Right, I’ve been hard on Corey. However, being a guy who has been injured a lot and had a large adjustment to make upon entering the league, I would have given him a third year.

There really was no incentive to trade him for nothing or cut him.

Hence, I’m curious to see what the compensation is. It may be slightly better than we think to cause this deal. Otherwise, why not give him a third year based on how thin our receiving unit has been?

Exactly. He might never live up to his draft position but let's say he develops to a 2nd or 3rd receiver, that better than whatever compensation we get most likely. Unless someone has impressed that we don't know about and we get Dez Byrant, we kept 6 receivers last year. I just don't see how Coleman wouldnt have been in our top 6 in terms of WR depth. WR depth always seems like something that can fade real quick especially when Josh Gordon is one of our WRs.

It is. I’ve heard the 3 year narrative for over a decade and don’t get it.

If you play dynasty, it's something you always keep in mind because it's a real thing. What you want to do is look for guys who show flashes in years one and two but have things holding them back. Injuries, buried on the depth chart, bad situation, etc.

Just this past year I got both Funchess and Thielen on the cheap hoping for a breakout (technically Thielen had already broken out his third year, but he got no respect last offseason heading into year four), and got Agholor off of waivers. I targeted Enunwa and Meredith for the same reasons, although obviously both had season-ending injuries last year in the preseason. I'm holding onto Doctson hoping for that year three breakout with a better QB and not a lot of competition.

Coleman had enough good games over his two years here for me to consider those to be adequate flashes of his potential if he can stay healthy for a whole season and put it all together. He's the type of guy I would snipe for pennies on the dollar right now if I hadn't already traded for him last year. It might not work out, but I'm always willing to take a chance on guys when their value tanks if I like their potential.

I'd list other guys I'm targeting this year, but I play in a dynasty league with some of you so you can fuck right off. :chuckle:

Assuming McCarron starts, I can't imagine he'll be worse than Kizer was last year.

Reupping this chart I made earlier. Shows how WR drafted near Coleman's slot since 1999 have fared in basic receiving stats. He ranks 12th out of 20th by this rudimentary method, so it is both too early and a little inaccurate to label him an outright bust, but it was getting to be put up or shut up time because his is the kind of production that teams start trying to draft replacements for.

Harsh tone.

Was Coleman that bad here? I wanted him to stay at least another year, but it seems like he rubbed some people the wrong way, maybe?

I love how she says he dropped the potential game-winning touchdown pass even though there was absolutely zero chance he was going to score a touchdown if he catches that.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't think a team that has lost 31 of their last 32 games is in any position to just dump young talent.

If Callaway/Higgins beat him out for snaps come regular season, then so be it, but to count on them & Gordon right now is not smart, IMO.

Corey Coleman is a strip club rat, and can’t even do that well... dude broke his hand in a fight at the tittie bar. Good riddance. Best of luck in Buffalo, where the bars close at 4 am.

Assuming that late round pick is a day 3 pick, Dorsey traded solid WR2 numbers in 19 games with awful QB play for a guy that statistically won't make your roster.

This is something that's important to note.

As much as we might think we know these guys, we really have no idea.

On the surface, it seems like Coleman is a 24-year-old with enough explosiveness and untapped potential that he'd be worth keeping. Why would they get rid of a guy who doesn't make a lot of money when the other options are just as unreliable or unproven?

But Coleman could have very easily worn out his welcome with the front office and the coaching staff with a shitty attitude, a poor work ethic, off the field issues, immaturity, etc.

Unfortunately, these are things we as fans just aren't really going to know about if the player is able to stay out of the police blotter.

Just to clarify your point, his stats through nineteen career games are:

56 receptions, 718 yards (12.8 YPR), 5 touchdowns

For all the talk of him being a bust, that's a solid stat line for what amounts to about a season's worth of football from a rookie/sophomore, especially when you consider the fact that about half his targets this past year weren't catchable.
