Cleveland Browns 2018 Season Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I think people are overplaying the job being unattractive angle. Like how can the job be so unattractive after landing who most people considered the top HC on the market when they hired Hue? he was the top guy available and we got him. The only thing that's changed has all happened under his watch. The noticeable improvements happened after Dorsey came on board.

The job isn't unattractive. Hue Jackson is.
Yeah I don't get that conspiracy theory. Dorsey thought the job was pretty damn attractive.

Does KC's OC call the plays? Looked to me like Andy Reid was calling them last night. Nagy got a HC job though, so whatever he did was apparently enough to convince the Bears, and it appears to be paying off.

I am saying that in January of 2018 it was unattractive.

I think what you also have to look at is what position some of these guys are in to turn us down. You don't turn down an NFL head coaching gig unless you have a better gig lined up. There's no way Josh McDaniels backs out of IND unless he knows he's comfortable in NE and they'll give him a raise which they did. Chip Kelly turned us down because he had better offers. Ended up getting to really good head coaching gigs and then another good college job.

Now guys like Matt Campbell have turned down big offers to move up before but not an NFL head coaching job. Is Matt LaFleur gonna turn down a head coaching gig with a young FQB locked in place? Is Dave Toub who's been an NFL coach for decades gonna turn down a head coaching gig with a FO he's worked with in the past? John DeFilipo gonna say no thanks at coaching Baker? The answer is yes they all could turn us down but what would their incentive be? Where and when are they guaranteed a better opportunity? We'll be a top 3 coaching opening at minimum.

I don't think a lot of these guys will turn this team down.

Titans offense is awful, so I’d like to entirely avoid Lafluer.

Let's get this out of the way early:

Just because you are a good coordinator, it doesnt make you a good head coach.

While there are guys I like and probably prefer (Flip and Toub being tops of my list), it's hard to know who is and is not good, and judging them on their coordination is not a viable way to do things.

Do any of you guys think that they wanted to fire Hue last year, but figured the job was so unattractive at that point, they banked on enough improvement this year to attract a real candidate?

Last year? I think there's some truth to this.

The Browns have a sure-fire franchise QB, weapons around him on offense and a ton of talent on defense. I have no idea what Dorsey is like to work for but he has crushed the last two offseasons he’s been a part of.

This is an ideal coaching situation. If the Browns can’t get an ideal candidate, then the Haslams are the problem.

Didn't Dorsey bring in Reid, I agree Dorsey isn't the answer. Sure Reid was a retread, but an actual proven one where he could have gone almost anywhere he wanted.

This is why I said I wouldn't be shocked if Dorsey pounces on McCarthy if GB moves on rom him.

Reid brought in Dorsey.

If you run a bad offense, you shouldn’t be given keys to a kingdom to see if you can take a step, especially if you’re not a former coach. He’s absolutely terrible.

Reid brought in Dorsey.

Ok, thank you.

Same difference to my point, a proven coach likes working with him. I like Dorsey allot, I think he could be a top 5 gm in this league if given proper control. I know he got in a fight with ownership in KC that cost him his job, but you look at his last 3 year track record between 2 teams and its probably the best 3 years in the entire NFL.
