Cleveland Browns 2018 Season Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
what time is it scheduled for?

It’s usually mid-day Monday. I’m west coast, and it’s usually at around 9-930 my time.

Edit; saw it’s 230 local time. He’s not getting fired.

The explanation on the hit to the head is really easy.

Guy is mid tackle when Baker starts his slide.

I don’t like that it was picked up, but it also didn’t matter. It didn’t kill a drive.

Just like the fumble in Oakland. We scored the next possession, and if anything, the extra time off the clock should have helped.

Honestly, it's not the outcome of the drive from that play that bothers me, it's the fact an nfl ref said it's okay to be hit in the head/helmet area. I just never thought I would hear that being hit there on purpose or not would be totally fine. We've seen refs throw flags on the roughing the passer all the time (especially this year with the new rule). It was just bizarre and goes against player safety the nfl has talked about.

Which, again, is fair. Bad explanation, but the refs right. You can’t give yourself up late and expect QB treatment.

Also, no way they fire Hue if he does his presser.

I have a hard time seeing them fire him this early, there are just too many games left.

Most teams that fire someone this early have a internal candidate they really like. Giving them this many games to prove themselves, is like say go out and take this job we are all behind you. I don't think Haley or Gregg are that kind of candidate. If they do it with 3-4 games left it's more like a working interview.

This reads differently than the NFL rule Tom Withers posted. :conf (11):

Yeah, I don't think any of the coaches within the organization would do a much better job than Hue unfortunately. And that's not a compliment to Hue. I personally wouldn't mind a mid-season change for coaching. The sooner we can get a positive influence on the players, even if we're not going to make the playoffs, the better.

No, but a helmet to helmet shot where a defender dips his head and lunges is always illegal. Whether Baker is sliding or not.

If we had a internal candidate like Kyle Shanahan or John Defilippo like we had in the past on the staff, I would be happy for a mid-season change. Now though with Haley or Gregg Williams, I wouldn't want Dorsey to have his hand tied in anyway to find a new HC.

Let’s be real, who are the possible options for next year. I remember someone had a post about some names.

Lincoln Reily

Matt Lafluer (Titans OC)

John Defilippo

Jim Schwartz

George Edwards (Vikings DC)

Titans offense is awful, so I’d like to entirely avoid Lafluer.

Do any of you guys think that they wanted to fire Hue last year, but figured the job was so unattractive at that point, they banked on enough improvement this year to attract a real candidate?

I think people are overplaying the job being unattractive angle. Like how can the job be so unattractive after landing who most people considered the top HC on the market when they hired Hue? he was the top guy available and we got him. The only thing that's changed has all happened under his watch. The noticeable improvements happened after Dorsey came on board.

The job isn't unattractive. Hue Jackson is.

The Browns have a sure-fire franchise QB, weapons around him on offense and a ton of talent on defense. I have no idea what Dorsey is like to work for but he has crushed the last two offseasons he’s been a part of.

This is an ideal coaching situation. If the Browns can’t get an ideal candidate, then the Haslams are the problem.
