It's only two games, but I like what I've seen so far out of Williams and Kitchens. The whole team is playing with a lot more discipline, fewer penalties, fewer mistakes. He has them playing somewhere close to where their talent should take them.
As for Kitchens, I had some problems with him being "too cute" with some of the trick plays. 3rd and two, I'm not crazy about the trick play attempt, and I really didn't like the HB pass that went for the interception. Just too much. The other thing I wasn't crazy about was how conservative we got towards the end, I'd rather stay more aggressive no matter what.
But on the good side for Kitchens I really liked how he always gave Baker a solid checkdown option and he had Baker coached up well regarding when to hit that option. I liked some of the unusual 3 back sets and although some of the option plays didn't work all that well I think they helped loosen things up for some of the big gain runs that came later. The Falcon defense had a whole lot of new looks to digest and I think Kitchens' schemes had them thinking which helped us to break some of our bigger plays out of more conventional looks. The screen pass (look downfield, fake a screen left, throw a screen right) was masterful in concept and execution. Baker seems extremely comfortable with the way Kitchens runs things.
I'd be happy to see these guys have enough success that they at least force themselves into consideration as a viable option moving forward, even if we go a different way. Those are the good kinds of problems to have.
