If Green Bay fires McCarthy, does that become the new number 1 attractive spot?
Depends on the potential new coaches mind set. GB is in a win now mode with a Hall of Fame QB. CLE is a young up and coming team that could/will be really damn good in the near future.

Green Bay will absolutely be the top opening if it becomes available. They've got one of the best QBs ever. Rare that those type of jobs become open at all.

It's only two games, but I like what I've seen so far out of Williams and Kitchens. The whole team is playing with a lot more discipline, fewer penalties, fewer mistakes. He has them playing somewhere close to where their talent should take them.

As for Kitchens, I had some problems with him being "too cute" with some of the trick plays. 3rd and two, I'm not crazy about the trick play attempt, and I really didn't like the HB pass that went for the interception. Just too much. The other thing I wasn't crazy about was how conservative we got towards the end, I'd rather stay more aggressive no matter what.

But on the good side for Kitchens I really liked how he always gave Baker a solid checkdown option and he had Baker coached up well regarding when to hit that option. I liked some of the unusual 3 back sets and although some of the option plays didn't work all that well I think they helped loosen things up for some of the big gain runs that came later. The Falcon defense had a whole lot of new looks to digest and I think Kitchens' schemes had them thinking which helped us to break some of our bigger plays out of more conventional looks. The screen pass (look downfield, fake a screen left, throw a screen right) was masterful in concept and execution. Baker seems extremely comfortable with the way Kitchens runs things.

I'd be happy to see these guys have enough success that they at least force themselves into consideration as a viable option moving forward, even if we go a different way. Those are the good kinds of problems to have.

One huge virtue of keeping a guy like Kitchens is that Baker and the rest of the offense wouldn't have to learn a new offensive system. They could simply refine this one and become more expert at it each season.

I'm not saying that's a good enough reason to stay with Kitchens if there are clearly better candidates, but it would be nice not to have to start all over from scratch again.

While I agree, I'm not sure it's enough yet. Now if they string 3 or 4 games in a row of this, then I would consider it.

Mostly, I'm just wondering what Pete Carmichael could do with this Saints lite offense we have going.

Gregg Williams again sounded like an intelligent guy at the podium. I know that's not the most important thing, but the demeanor he shows there and the way he talks about the players and coaching staff are very reassuring/stabilizing, and that's a huge difference in the vibe from Hue. Really interesting to see how he dials down some of that stuff when he's acting as head coach and not just D-coordinator.

Kinda weird I'm open to it? :party smiley 004:

Maybe its the thick ass nerdy glasses he wears, and that he suddenly looks calm and cool on the sidelines.

But I'm at least willing to give him the rest of the season to coach it out to see if he's a candidate.

As long as he's willing to hand over the defense. Which I'm not a fan of him as a coordinator, but maybe as a head coach is more his strength.

It's just so strange to see a Gregg Williams led team playing completely different like this.

At worst:chuckle: he's a hell of a lot better than Hue Jackson.

If he wins you keep him.

If it is indeed true that he’s the guy instilling discipline and a good work ethic then you have to consider him as remaining if they go 4-2 or 3-3.

If Kitchen’s offense continues to empower Baker then he too has a good case for sticking around.

Seriously, people.

What’s wrong with you all?

I see people, after two games, willing to consider Gregg Williams as a long term candidate?

This is what Hue has turned you into.

We can do better, trust me.

I don’t even think Gregg wants to be a HC, for what it’s worth.

3rd shift Joe from Parma calling into a radio show after this morning's booze is different than fanatics on RCF. You're preaching to the choir, IMO.

Are you willing to say there is no way you'd even consider him at the end of the season, regardless of what happens between now and then?

Nobody -- at least as far as I can tell -- is saying that Gregg Williams already has earned the job. We're simply saying that he's been a positive so far, and if the team continues to improve and win, then he should at least be under consideration for the position. There may still be someone else who blows our doors off. Then again, then may not be.

Yes. I’m saying no way do I even consider Gregg Williams as an actual long term option—with the exception being that we make the playoffs and win the Super Bowl. And that’s not happening.

This hiring is too important.

We know who Gregg Williams is. We know.

He’s been good for this team. He’s lit a fire under their asses and is holding them accountable. That’s the opposite of Hue Jackson.

This team has talent. We knew that already. We should’ve been getting a minimum of these efforts with an average coach all along.

It just so happened Hue Jackson was the worst head coach in NFL History. He was making so much less with more.

I’m happy that Gregg is stabilizing the fort here. He should be commended for it. But his job is to get us through the rest of the season and instill discipline.

Long term, we know his personality enough to know he’s too unstable. You can’t give him the keys. To his credit, he’s driving the car responsibly right now but it’s only a matter of time until he floors it to show off and crashes.

His purpose is to get us by this year. We can do far better than Gregg williams as our HC permanently.

Did anyone else notice how Gregg got a big hug when they won on the field? I don’t remember hue ever getting that.
