Browns 2018 Season Reboot Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
@Mr. Orange

Today is a special day. With the 5th win of the 2018 season, I do believe that Mr. Orange will be honoring our bet, and thus defending The Barenaked Ladies’ “One Week” as one of the best rap songs of all time, on a prominent hip hop forum.

I will be backing him up for grins, as well as enlisting the help of this thead’s constituents and the OT hip hop thread’s members as well.

I actually think Tennessee is going to win out.

Our best shot at the playoffs is to win the division.

Pittsburgh plays New England, New Orleans, and then Cincinnati.

The way they are currently playing, I put the chances of them losing the next two at 75%.

Thus, if we can take care of offensively-challenged Denver and then Cincinnati at home... it’ll all be tied going into week 17.

At that point, we have to win and hope for a Bengals miracle.

So you're saying....

Hue Jackson could still send the browns to the playoffs:alc:

If the Steelers and Ravens lose 2/3 and the Browns win out, the Browns win the division.

I can’t get over the Bucs and Raiders losses.....

We should be 7-5-1 and in the drivers seat in the wild card.

/sad face
Yeah, but think of it this way...

...we don’t lose the Oakland and Tampa games, and Hue Jackson is still coaching this team.

LOL, that bet was made when Hue Jackson was coach. If you really want me to do that I guess I can, but I made that bet with Hue as head coach, and said many times they would never win 5 games with him in charge. I think this bet is a push. Like I said, they had talent to win 8 but coaching was like a minus 5.

Also, the bet was over/under six wins. I think I may have given you 6, but again, that was with Hue as head coach. I'll tell you what, to be fair, if the Browns win out I will honor the bet, if they lose out, you honor, and if they win 1-2 games, we can call it a push.

I think the posts in which the original bet was made should be reposted so that it can be evaluated by a panel of qualified judges. Alternatively, us other idiots here can substitute if said panel is unavailable.

Who was the coach when the bet was made though. That matters. The evaluation committee will have to take that into consideration.

The Post is in the Browns Wins Predictions thread. I chose 4, @natedagg chose 12!. This was on Sep 6th. With Hue as headcoach.

This was the original bet, but to be fair, I replied saying he could have 6 and up. But again, I made that bet with 1-31 Hue as the coach. No fucking way he was winning 7 games.

"@Mr. Orange and I didn’t forget about you, Mr Yellow. I have a new wager to offer, regarding 6 wins. Same as above: you lose if we win more and win if we win less. The loser of the wager has to create an account on a hip hop message board, and defend the Bare Naked Ladies’ “one week” as the best rap song of all time. Like they have to go HARD at defending it lyrically, and be serious about it."

I mean, I will do this if you want, but the bet is kinda BS after the midseason change.

Should have been more specific in the language of the parameters. Should have said the bet was void if Hue was terminated prior to the season’s end or by week x.

Foreseeing Hue’s termination wasn’t really a rare sentiment.

There's actually a few alternatives:

1) No mention is made of the coach. In that case, the bottom line is the only thing that matters.

2) The coach is made an express condition of the bet. "If Hue remains coach for the entire season, they won't win more than 5 games." That's easy as well, because Hue's firing would void the bet.

3) The coach is mentioned, but not made an express condition of the bet. "Hue sucks, so I don't think they win more than 5 games." That (arguably) creates a ambiguity in the bet that would have to be resolved by judges. Because there is an ambuigity, the Four Corners doctrine would not apply, and evidence extrinsic to the text of the agreement itself could be used to determine the intent of the parties.

Thing is, most people thought that Hue would be fired if he lost a bunch of games, which would mean that Hue not being the coach would create a bank of losses to help your side of the bet. It's pretty rare that a coach gets fired mid-season and his replacement sees more than a temporary one or two game boost anyway. I suspect that if we would have known that both Hue and Haley would be fired after 8 games, most people would have thought your bet was a likely winner anyway.
