I have been watching Cedi for a very long time since he was 16. I think having very high expectations from him is not fair. He is not a traditional rookie. He is more of a sophomore considering his experience in europe. Therefore don't expect him to improve his game as fast as Sexton. What you got now is pretty much close to his prime.
Cedi is good at everything. He is not great at anything. This will not change. His game will mature in time. He will do less mistakes. He will become a little bit better finisher. He will be an above average defender. He will probably never be a better shooter. And thats it. Not an all star material. But he is someone who you really really want in your team for many years. I believe there is no team in NBA who would say no to have Cedi in their rooster.
He shines in well established organisations. Spurs could be an ideal team for him.
Anyway, having high expectations of him is not realistic. He is who he is now. He will never save your team. With a better playmaker and good defenders under the rim, you could utilize his skills, but i dont see this happening in the near future.

It's almost like Cedi was a second round pick and Colin was a top ten lottery pick.

Cedi's draft slot had a lot to do with his overseas contract and the unknown of when he'd be able to come over and join an NBA team.

Had he been in last year's draft, the scouting report was that he'd have been a 10-15 pick.

Using his draft status to re-align expectations doesn't reflect what was expected of him coming in to the season.

OG Anunuby, Kuzma, and Josh Hart are the only players in that draft taken after 15 that you would even consider taking over Cedi. I'd rather have him than Ojele or Jordan Bell, but maybe someone would argue with me on that.

I'm fine with people pointing out his flaws. He has holes right now, but when he has been focused and locked in, he has played great ball. I don't think he will ever lead in scoring our be unstoppable, but if he can just improve incrementally and cut out the mistakes, he will be a solid guy with an Ariza like impact.

I'm not disagree with you, I was just pointing out the flaw in someone defending Cedi by using his draft slot as a way to retroactively claim what his expectations for this season should have been.

I lot of of us saw (or see) all star potential, so it's fair to point out that he's missed that boat. I agree with you that he, at minimum, should become a quality 3 and D guy in the NBA. His playmaking ability and vision allow for much more as well. He just hasn't taken the steps we'd have hoped for yet.

Not sure what Cedi will ultimately become. I think he's a guy who will benefit immensely from playing with Delly as he has the potential to be a 6'8 version of what Delly gave this team before bolting.

I'd be completely fine with that. And just someone that can play on the wing, score and defend. That seems like it's so hard to staff on a basketball team nowadays.

Seriously, what happened to Cedi's shot? It was Korver-alike, smooth and was going in. Now, they are bricks that hit random spots of the rim. We deserve an explanation :)

Slump. No big deal for now. He's under more pressure. I think he'll adjust and start improving soon...or he won't.

It's too soon to tell. For now, he just needs to attack and dish, and only shoot wide open shots. He needs to simplify his game a bit until he finds his bearings again.

Hood and Clarkson make everyone around them worse, tho. And this can't be said enough.

Good some nights, bad most. Needs to improve his stand still outside shot by a mile.

I've questioned if the NBA game has slowed down for him yet. He seems to try to play too fast which causes him to be out of control.

I'm still think the best thing for him is to get him a vet to mentor him. The coaching staff doesn't seem to have any impact on him at the moment. Someone needs to get him to focus in on one area at a time to improve in.

I tend to agree. He is having trouble with NBA level athletes. He is used to being the best athlete on the floor, and it allowed him to be a little loose with his handle and a little sloppy. I do think if he just tightens things up a bit, he will be cool. Delly could have really good effect on him. We know he can watch Lebron and pick stuff up. Delly won't help him with his shot, but he could help him with turnovers, defense, and just playing the right way.

He had by all accounts a bad night last night with

8pts 6assists and 5 rebounds That's pretty good for a bad night

I think he is going to clean up a lot of what is going on here because he is making a lot of mistakes and turnovers. Tunrovers are the area most young players make the biggest improvement on. I see no reason why he would be different.

Being consistent and playing within himself is where he needs to get to. When he looks comfortable he is awesome like in the GS game. When he gets in his head he doesn't do very well. It was nice he looked to pass once he realized his shot was off last night. He had some good passes.

Good to hear positive answers. I think there is truth in all of them.

I also have a general question. Yesterday, I definitely saw more ball movement and potential to make more assists (and actually we had more assists then usual). What subforum do general comments about the team go? I don't feel like posting to the tanking thread, but I don't know where to post.

We usually have a general Cavs talk thread, but really haven't this year. You can make one.

Thought I'd repost this in the Cedi thread and elaborate.

The Cavs have played close to 1300 minutes so far, and Cedi has been on the floor for 800.
  • In the 500 minutes without Cedi, the Cavs are playing close to break-even basketball. Team +/- is only -0.8 per 100 possessions. That team would be expected to win about half their games.
  • In the 800 minutes with Cedi, the Cavs are atrocious. Team +/- is -14.8 per 100 possessions,
Cedi has the worst +/- on the team and almost all of the pain is on the defensive side. 11.5 out of the 14.8 come on the defensive end.

Opponents have an ORTG = 124 when Cedi plays defense, which is just about the same as saying opponents can score at will when Cedi is in the game. The opponents shoot 8%(!) better, rebound 3% better, and get more assists when Cedi comes in.

Not sure what is going on because we didn't see this last year.

He didn't play at the 4 most of last year, he played at the 2
