Sexton is proving he was a hell of a pick at #8. One of the best players in the draft.

And we got him at 8.

Wait, Cavs can draft now?

I am watching Morant in the tourney right now, I get that it would be a tough defensive back court, but if Sexton looks this good with Knight, he will look electric with Morant. Two quick athletic combo guards putting pressure on defenses would be fun. Throw in Cedi's ability to make plays and defend, and that is a good nucleus.

Seems like Marquette is going out of their way to stop him from scoring but he still has 15 points (4-8) and 15 assists so far. College basketball seems like a joke for him so his talent is next level but what were successful back-courts where both guards were both 6'3" or shorter? Maybe we can grab an elite shot blocking big with the Rockets pick. RJ is a perfect fit next to Sexton and I think the floor spacing in the NBA will benefit him much more. Good problem to have if it's between them

FYI, I think one of the biggest improvements Sexton has made is at the rim. He's more natural going around big guys than he was at the beginning of the year and is finishing there. It was a major weakness early and he's turning it into a strength with his crazy ability to hang in the air.

Lillard and McCullum in todays game, Arguably the greatest backcourt of all time, Thomas and Dumars, were 6'3 and 6'1

Morant is slight and wont gain weight, Sexton is athletic built and could put on muscle. For it to work, Sexton needs to learn to guard taller players, but the effort is there.

Isiah couldn't guard shit, so if Morant atleast becomes and average defender, it could work. I know modern basketball and all, but they actually took more advantage of lack of height back in the 80's and 90's than they do today. Today its about efficient shots, back then it was about mismatches.

In all seriousness, after reading that article, I say "fuck it" in terms of anyone saying that he'll never be a point guard. That kid is going to end up as our starting point guard for a very long time, and we'll be damn glad we drafted him.
If you're putting 5 guys on the court and one of them is Sexton, you pretty much have no choice but to play him at PG unless the team he's matched against has undersized guards. So he is technically a 1, but in stature only. Right now he has the skill-set of a SG. He's a rookie so time could change that, but if it doesn't, he'll need to be paired with a taller point guard.

If the Cavs lose the Zion lottery, one has to wonder if 6'5" Coby White becomes an option if they slip far enough. The problem is that he's more of a combo guard than the pass-first PG they're in the market for, so he'd be another experiment, but with more risk because if he fails the Cavs will have drafted their second SG in two years.

I think if we end up with Morant, Koby should build the team out with alot of wings. Make the backup SG a wing. Only guards who get major minutes in the rotation would be Sexton and Morant. Not sure what place Delly would have outside of a 3rd PG role with limited minutes when we are 100% healthy. Knight and Clarkson would definately have to be moved, hopefully for some wing depth.

We really only have 3 wings that are worth keeping right now on the roster in Cedi, Nwaba, and Blossomgame.

Not sure Blossomgame is worth keeping long term, he is just better than our trash, lol

That's really my point. I think he's smart/hardworking enough to become a 6-7 a/g guy, and I think that's all you need in the modern NBA. I'd truly be shocked if he doesn't reach that level.

It's also why I'd prefer not to pair him with a ball dominant PG like Morant. One or the other of them will have too much wasted talent.

Allow me to play devils advocate as I'm intrigued by Morant as well. Isiah was an all time great and MJ called Dumars the toughest defender he's ever faced but this is clearly peak small back court duo. Lillard and McCullum are both defensively challenged but are dynamic players however they tend to have a low ceiling in the playoffs compared to similarly talented tall wings/forward types. They've attempted to compliment them with players who can fill out the roster defensively however they've been offensively challenged (GM is trash which doesn't help).

I think it can be done IF Koby has a vision long term (proper coaching hire and their defensive scheme, shot blocking big etc...) but the easier (and lazier perhaps) decision is RJ next to Sexton.

I agree. I think tighter defenses mean a slowed-down game in the playoffs, and that tends to affect disproportionately PG's for whom pushing the pace is a key part of their game.

But what if we pick third and morant is gone?

How about 4th, who is the best of the rest.

We will see in about 2 months when the lottery is held.

If they don’t get Zion, take the best available player and figure out the rest later.
If it’s Morant, taken him. The young bull can play with him.

In addition, Morant's only 6'3" with a 6'7" wingspan, which makes him roughly the same size as Sexton. He'd make for a pretty small SG defensively. Would the Cavs pass up on his talent because of an inch or two? I doubt it.

I believe most here would agree that my solution is the best one:

Win. The. Damn. Lottery.
