I usually don't pay any attention to arguments like he would have a lot more assists if shooters would simply hit their shots since this is true of everybody. However, there did seem to be an unusual number of wide open bricks after Sexton's passes last night.

OTOH their were also bunch of times Sexton looked like he did early in the season where he would drive into a crowd and turn it over or throw up a zero chance shot. Haven't seen as much of that in a bit.

Good game for Sexton. Not as good or consistent as some of the earlier games in this streak but was clutch at the end.

This kid might be special fellas. Might be a generation talent because of his 3 shooter, efficiency, and speed. We might have the steph Curry/John Wall Hybrid.
Curry averaged 5.9 ast and Wall averaged 8 ast in their rookie seasons on teams just as bad as the Cavs.

True, though it wasn't until his third year at Davidson when Curry's assists began to climb. When he was 20-21. His averages at Davidson with 30+mpg his first two seasons were 2.8 and 2.9. He was not the prime guard, so that's understandable. But his assists weren't near what Jason Richards was putting up the prior two years when he was a junior.

Sexton is trailing his college assists number, though that number would have been better at Bama if he had more talent around him. He was about it there talentwise.

There've been other PGs that have turned up their assist numbers and I expect Sexton won't stop working. Most notably, Lowry was in the 3s for assists his first several years but then his assists went up greatly in his second year in Houston.

Sexton has improving potential assist numbers. He's finding guys and will continue to get better. And as those guys make the shots, the assist numbers will go up as well.

He's never going to lead the league in assists, but I don't think getting to 5+ on average over the next few years is out of the question. That should be adequate.

I wasn't talking about the assist. Was talking about his speed and shooting.. Walls speeds, Currys shooting.

The Cavs have even tried to get him to pick up a hobby so basketball isn’t all he does.

This is quite possibly the most Cavs Front Office thing ever said.

"Hey man, I know we pay you millions of dollars to do this but have you ever heard of Bass Pro Shop?"

In all seriousness, after reading that article, I say "fuck it" in terms of anyone saying that he'll never be a point guard. That kid is going to end up as our starting point guard for a very long time, and we'll be damn glad we drafted him.

Sexton's 10 game stretch in March

22.9 PPG, 3 AST, 2 REB, .519 FG, .500 3 PT, .644 TS, 116 ORTG

We'll just ignore that 122 DRTG. :chuckle:

He's had really nice progress month over month since January. That is maybe most encouraging of all, given his shooting improvement. He should be hitting the rookie wall but he's instead playing the best basketball of his life, as a 20 year old NBA rookie, in the last 1/3rd of of his first NBA season.

I saw the Lexus commercial he did for a local dealer and he mentioned there were a lot of good restaurants here.

We really do need to find him and Cedi a hobby (since Cedi doesnt drink).

One thing I will say, he physically looks like he is trying on defense. He fights through screens & doesn't just dog it like Lebron or Kyrie did. If he can become a smarter defender & the defense of the team improves. I think he can at least be average defensively.
