Cleveland Browns 2019 Season

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I wonder if he could be part of a package to move up into the 1st round.

Devin Bush, anyone?

A Schobert trade probably isn't moving us into the first round.

If you're trading Schobert because you don't value Linebackers, why would you waste that first rounder on another linebacker?

Dorsey can find Lbs in the mid rounds. Not going to lose sleep over joe sho. Probably better to trade him now than pay him 10M per or close to that.

I mean, good players get traded all the time in the NFL out of necessity. It happens. Shit, Frank Clark just got traded today.

Well yeah, nobody is saying to give Joe away for nothing. You don't trade him now unless the value makes sense.

Also, lets say your scenario plays out. We let Joe walk to get a compensatory pick. When will we know for sure what round that pick will land in? Not very familiar with the overall compensatory process.
Compensatory picks are always the following year of FA.

Wants a lot of money, is 30, and is coming off an injury.

The draft picks compensation for him would have to be really low to even consider for the Browns imo and even the dent into the cap(affecting next years rollover and total cap space) might just be too much for a player of his age and contract expectations.

Still wouldn’t hate.

When healthy he is a top 3 slot CB. No qualms with taking a shot in him and that’s a vast defensive improvement immediately.

Woah. I could see it though. Even though LB isn't a strength right now. Schobert is good but he's not elite, and he's likely gonna want elite money.

Not to mention LBs are almost as replaceable as RBs.

Certain guys will be cap casualties and he could be one.

It doesn't make sense to me at all.

Dorsey has made some clear "win now" moves, and likely believes we should be aiming for a significant playoff run. So why would you ditch your best linebacker now because he might become too expensive in the future? Especially given that LB is one of the weakest positions on the team. We went 0-3 in the three games he missed, and gave up 26, 33, and 37 points in those games. His absence was most noticeable against KC, where we were just killed in the underneath passing game.

This is his last year under contract. Some people are worried about Dorsey putting us in “cap hell” ... giving Schobert a ton of money would be a great way to do it.

By that logic, Garrett is the next guy gone.

I don't buy it. I think things like which GM picked a player may matter for borderline players, or guys whose salary may exceed their utility. But if Dorsey is the kind of guy who will ditch a critical player simply because he's not the one who drafted him, and we don't have anyone who remotely appears capable of replacing him, then we're in bad shape.
