2019 NBA Draft Lottery

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
White is a Cavs like pick

I agree. He wasn't expected to play as well as he did. He is alot like Sexton with both good on and off the ball skills. I think he would fit in with Sexton and Cedi real well.

He is a downhill kind of player in transition. He can switch off PG duties with Sexton. He is big enough to play and guard SGs.

Outside of Zion and Ja, I don’t see a huge issue between 3-5. I don’t love RJ Barrett and I don’t think he would have liked being in Cleveland. And the Lakers will surely screw up #4. We are going to get a good player, hopefully a wing, who can fit in with Sexton, Cedi, Love and TT. Just have to keep adding talent and try to get wins now. You may say tanking didn’t work but we just got a top 5 pick out of it.

I think Barrett will go #3 or maybe #2 if Memphis doesn't like Morant. I don't think there is much of a gap between #4-#10 which is why it won't matter much that the Lakers got #4.

We will tank next year unless we can get our pick back from the Hawks. The top 10 protection and teams jumping up this year, we won't risk getting enough wins to just be #7-#9 odds to lose our pick by bad luck.

I hope we bring in more than just the 2 draft picks we currently have. I hope we can get draft picks for TT and Clarkson. Use this year to build the core and develop them. We have no choice but to tank again, this time we should go all in on it. Getting the vets out and young guys in so they can get heavy minutes.

Love is the only vet I'm on the fence about moving because the spacing he proves which helped with development.

So what about some homerun potential guys like Bol Bol or Coby white?

The thing about #5 and picks from 4-10 is that there may not be a player with the crazy upside (though that can surprise at times - Curry was 7, Giannis was 15, Kawhi was 15, etc), many of those players don't have the same floor. Not that the floor for Zion is low, but if he is merely good it can be disappointing to a fan base and he can be branded as a flop. For a recent Top Three player I think Jaylen Brown. He's a good player but there's also a level of disappointment so far. I think we'd all agree that Jamal Murray, the #7 pick, is a better player.

Let's take that draft and the top three: Ben Simmons, Brandon Ingram, and Jaylen Brown. A case could be made that Jamal Murray - a guy available at #5 - is a better long term bet than any of those three. Simmons couldn't shoot his way out of a paper bag. Ingram did improve this year, but there are some issues. Brown is good but he has yet to grow into the player some hoped he would be. He's certainly not a face of as franchise guy.

Neither is Murray - but guys taken out of the top three don't have the pressure of being that guy.

If you're the Cavs you hope for this:

  • You get a player that can grow and be coached at 5 that will be able to work as a start on a playoff team.
  • You get a player that can be a solid rotational guy at 26 that also can be coached.
  • Sexton continues to grow, responds to Beilein and takes a step forward as a passer and defender - doesn't have to be great, just needs to show he can grow.
  • Cedi does the same as above.
  • Nance also shows some growth.
  • Zizic also shows some growth.
  • Love stays relatively healthy and plays in 50 games or so.
  • Ending contract assets are trained for more youth/draft picks.
Hopefully Beilein is able to develop guys with his staff. Other assets can add to guys that can be rotational players or good starters.

And then you hope for the ping pong ball. You hope to get into the 30 win range and be next season's Lakers, Grizzlies, or Pelicans - to get that shot to draft a massive upside player that can be the Batman to a team with a couple of Robins and some good roleplayers.

Or maybe you hit the lotto in another way and you find the best player in the draft at 5. That IS possible. It means you need to do your work to make sure you pick the BEST guy in your slot.

I think Altman ended up doing a pretty good job at that last year. Maybe Shai will be better than Sexton - but that's far from guaranteed. Maybe Porter will be, but he lost a full year of development.

And maybe the Cavs add assets and trade back. I doubt that, but you never know.

There's also still the possibility we add another draft asset with the JR contract. When Allen Crabbe opted in, I think that made the Nets a real option. With the Knicks not getting Zion, they may want space to make their own NYC push for Kyrie and another star. $14M in extra space would go a long way - and first round cap holds don't help.

I think it will be on of Hunter or Culver, basically whoever the Lakers dont pick. My choice would be White though, been high on him for months.. he may not have the strength to guard 2 guards at the next level which is a must given we have Sexton though.

My guess is we will roll out something like this on opening night:
PG: Sexton
SG: Cedi
SF: Hunter
PF: Love
C: Tristan

6th man: Clarkson
Bench:
tbd

Coach: Beeline (I am spelling it like this forever)

One has to find it funny that a (at this moment) generational player has been exiled to NBA siberia because of this bullshit.

Really doesn't look good for the league.

i mean the reaction shot was of their (overworked) ticket sales department celebrating it. Really sums it up.

He goes to Memphis? I don't know...I mean he'd have been decently popular I guess.
He goes to the Knicks? They'd be doing victory laps as we speak.
Lakers? LOL.
Us? Well yeah. We're dick swinging about now at the rest of the sport world.

They hyped this up and got the worst possible scenario one could ever ask for.

A franchise that would be playing in Oklahoma City right now had their not been one of their worst natural diasters in american history.

Take Bol Bol. 19 years old and with a foot injury could miss next year and help getting a high pick so it is not lost to Atlanta.

I don't care about the injury and it's affect on next season, but I love Bol's game. He is infinitely more talented than anyone else we could have at 5. If they feel the injury is a 1 year thing and not career threatening, I'd take him in a heartbeat.

I hope we can pick up another pick with JRs contract. Maybe Gilbert will be willing to spend to buy a 2nd round pick or we can trade one of our future picks for one this year.

I thought if we fell out of the top 3 that we would be looking to tank again. We should make the best out of it though and try to build/develop a core this year. Ideally I think that would mean bring in 4 rookies.

I've not seen it said here, but I want to kick Rachel Nichols' in her sycophantic, big-market rah-rah'ing womb.

Gushing over Zion every millisecond like it was a homecoming court for the Knicks and cunt-bursting when LA wound up with a top 10 pick they could add to an AD trade...

So what about some homerun potential guys like Bol Bol or Coby white?

I like Coby White, I actually think he is one of the safer picks at #5 because you can see alot of translatable NBA skills in his game. Him and Hunter are probably the safest picks between #4-#10.

The Hawks are in real nice position to take gambles at #8 and #10 for someone like Bol Bol.

Could have been much worse.

Plenty of talent at 5. Heck maybe the best talent. Look at Dame and Giannis.

Knicks get screwed. Lakers don’t get enough help. Celtics lose the Grizz pick.

Lots to like tonight.
Yeah. Could’ve been way way way worse.

We could’ve picked at #6.

Could you fucking imagine having to pick all the way down at 6?

Don’t you even think for a second I forgot about that jinx.
