Andre Drummond - LeBron's Robin

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I think you're misconstruing what my actual point is to begin with.

Yes, top 3 teams all have "140 chances" in the new draft lottery format. However, the 2nd worst record has a 20% chance at the #6 pick (the absolute worst record can't be worse than 5th). So, yes, there is an advantage in terms of being the worst overall record compared to the 2nd worst record. And my point in that regard is --- who's to say we wouldn't have a worse record than GS last year had we not traded for Drummond? We definitely were on a better pace for it pre-Drummond acquisition

And nonetheless, ALL of that is me getting off my entire point to begin with.. What was the GOAL of acquiring Drummond? To win more games? That would have been stupid, so I don't believe that. To see if he fits into our young core going forward? Well he didn't so if that was the reason then it was an obvious fail. To hold onto him until the deadline the next year and try to flip him for assets since he was an expiring contract? Again, if that was the goal then it was also a fail.

What part of the Drummond acquisition and then buyout was not a fail? I guess that's my question with it all.

1) Attributing those late-season wins to the arrival of Drummond ignores that was the same time we fired one of the worst coaches in team history under whom the team was tailspinning. The better argument is that improvement was due to replacing Beilein with Bickerstaff, because....

2)) This has been analyzed before, but take a look at the +/- and boxscores from those games we won with Drummond last season. Very hard to argue that he played a determinative role in those games.

3) It was a low cost/potentially high reward move. Almost by definition, the majority of those don't work out, but that certainly is no reason not to take those shots. The fact that one of those lottery tickets fails does not mean the strategy of taking those kind of risks is wrong.

4) The benching/buyout of Drummond never would have happened if we hadn't had the great good fortune to have Allen fall into our laps. So if you want to evaluate the GM fairly, you have to consider those two moves as connected. In which case, I think Koby comes out substantially ahead.

Drummond became expendable once we acquired Allen. Koby had no way of knowing the Allen deal would happen.

Drummond’s eFG% fell from 53.9% to 47.4%. He was a significantly worse player this year. 47.4% for a guy that shoots close to the basket is atrocious.

I’m well aware finishing with the worst record gets you 5th and the second-worst record sixth - IF both teams miss the lottery. That‘s not enough of a difference to not make deals that would help your team. Plus I’m not interested in building a losing culture. Tanking for more lottery balls is one thing - tanking for 5th vs 6th is pretty weak.

I was perfectly fine with the acquisition of Drummond IN HOPES OF trading him for some type of value in the future. That was the goal all along, or at least what I assumed was the goal. We ended up paying the guy a shit-ton of money to be an ineffective player and got nothing in return.

We will just have to agree to disagree on the topic as it's now over-running this thread.

I appreciate the responses from all of you except adamking who is a sarcastic douche that can suck it.

Koby trash as hell.

Meanwhile Aldridge gave back $7.25 million and Griffin gave back $13.3 million ($4.1 million this year and $9.2 million next season). I know Dan has "I'll pay you to get the f*** off my team" money after making $42 billion during the pandemic but Drummond signing for a what he "gave up" to join LeBron has to hurt lol.

Maybe Dan G. isn’t such a shrewd businessman after all.

Drummond made it very clear he doesnt want to lose a dime, it really doesnt matter to a fan in the long run, none of it effects us or the team. Its just money to Gilbert and he has never ran the team on nickels and dimes like the Indians. One of the bigger problems is it has been his toy now his son's toy so they are too involved.

Picking up Drummond seals the deal for the Lakers coming out of the West (if AD is at least 80% healthy). You just added a monster rebounding machine and rim protector! This guy has AVERAGED 13 rebounds a game (4.5 on the offensive glass) and except for his rookie year has ALWAYS averaged double figures in rebounding! Those rebounding numbers meant squat to a sorry ass Cavs team but they will spell NBA Finals to the Lakers

If he is allowed to play the way he played for the Cavs on the offensive end, he will hurt the Lakers.

We didnt have a respected vet he would listen too, if Drummond doesnt fall in line for Lebron, then there is no trusted vet he will listen too.

Drummond is a net negative for the Lakers. Why they even bothered shows their pathetic desperation in a area of nonneed. With the injuries, the Clips are clearly the team to beat.

I’m not blaming Drummond at all for taking nearly the full amount since he had all the leverage.

Drummond was perfectly content wearing a Cavs jersey the rest of the season and triggering most of us on this forum.
