Don't know about this, JA has been out so long that an extra 2 days of rehab isn't going to make a big difference. Tonight is must win and if he can't go i'd be surprised if he goes Thursday eve. Sounds like he still isn't using his left hand much to catch balls, thats pretty problematic.

tonight isn't a must win. If we lose, Friday is a must win.

I'm not even sure whether I'd prefer to play Boston in the first round (we get them if we win tonight) or the Heat (if we lose tonight and win Friday)

Not treating tonight as a must win is the wrong mindset.
It depends on how far along Allen is tbh. If he's at 70% now, and will be closer to 85% on Friday, then it might be worth holding him back.

Personally when I’m on the court I will definitely be treating it as a must win - setting hard picks, busting my ass to pick up Durant on switches, moving without the ball to give Garland an outlet when they are trapping him, keeping guys spirits up on the bench. You can believe that 100%. Observing that we could still make the playoffs on Friday even if we lose tonight is just something I do privately around non-players. Never let it impact my on court effort or what I say around the team in the locker room.

I heard JB is going to rest Garland so he'll be ready for Friday.

Look, a game either is a must win or it isn't. Tonight isn't. Friday is. By definition.

That doesn't mean they won't do everything in their power to get an upset tonight. But in managing JA's return to action coming off an injury that is still being rehabbed, the Cavs are going to look at it strategically and not emotionally.

surely we won't rest Garland tonight? That would be like forfeiting basically.

We can beat any team one time. Idk why ppl are just bending over for the Nets in a one game scenario. We could beat the 1996 Bulls ONE TIME

Think about all the times Bron lost game 1

1) At this stage of rehab after the splint comes off and they're working on pain management, strength and dexterity, every single day makes a difference.
2) Tonight is not must win. Friday (not Thursday) IS the must win game.
3) There are reports that he was using his left hand the last time out, just very limited. As I said, every single day of rehab makes a difference at this point.
4) My main point is that JA probably would play tonight if tonight was the actual elimination game. It's not. I'm saying they made the calculated decision that IF the Cavs could somehow pull off an upset tonight then that gives JA an additional 6 days until Sunday, which would be huge. If we lose he still gets an extra 3-4 days until Friday, which is significant when he's making progress every single day at this point.
I'm the last person to tank for any reason. You win every game you can with your best effort.

But saying that, I'd rather play Miami with Adebayo out than red-hot Boston. Or the Bucks.
