I think there’s an edge to us and we are all starting to find ourselves. Starting to find out what works and what doesn’t work. There are so many different guys. - Donovan Mitchell

This team seems to be finally putting it together. Rubio and Wade are back. Okoro is hitting 3's. They had 30+ assists four games in a row for the first time in 30 years. They are figuring out "what works and what doesn't". Stevens and Love have been dropped from the rotation.

Perhaps most importantly, JBB says the Cavs have developed "a seriousness to our approach and an attitude to how we are playing....understanding the intensity level that it takes...and understanding how important every possession is and not just waiting until the fourth quarter to make plays."

That's a long way from earlier in the season when he said the Cavs were playing "arrogant" basketball and not respecting the game.

The team is mostly healthy (Mitchell is not 100% and LeVert is out) and the schedule is easing up. Kyrie forced his way out of Brooklyn (not sure if that trade makes them better or worse) and the Knicks have lost 7 of 11. The Heat have lost 3 of 4.

For the moment at least, it appears all the arrows are pointing up.

We have to win tonight. 2nd night of b2b, JBB left the guys out there until the 3 min mark yesterday. The road struggles have to stop right here with the Washington’s of the world. We have to find a way.
It’s not make or break but the expectation here is a win. I get the highs and lows of the season but I will be disappointed if we can’t figure this one out.
Keep that ball moving on offense. Just those touches as it zips around get everyone engaged. Keep up the great work!

The Cavs have lost by 20+ two times in the last two seasons combined and zero times this year thus far (15 point loss being the highest).

They have been down by a lot over the last few seasons but more often than not, they make a game of it.

Pace and defense is the major factor and in an era where three point shooting can create large point differentials, it's actually pretty impressive Cavs have kept the 20 point losses nearly non existent.

In 2020-2021, a 72 game season, the Cavs had 17 losses by 20+.

JBB deserves some credit.

2 swallows don’t make a summer.

Until I see consistency over the course of weeks, I will regard them as up-and-down.

Cleaningtheglass.com has the Cavs tied for second in point differential at +4.9. According to them that point differential should have resulted in 35.7 wins, but the Cavs have just 33 - nearly three wins fewer than they should have based on points scored and allowed.

They need to get better at closing out games. They've had a least two losses that seemed to be well in hand before they imploded in the last two minutes.

We seemed to start turning the corner when Mobley got a little fuck you in him.

I don't know if Donovan pulled him aside when he was injured, if JBB did, if Mobley finally got annoyed he wasn't involved......whatever. But when Evan started taking the ball and decisively attacking, you kind of saw some of his teammates looking around saying "Oh shit, yeah, maybe this guy should get the ball more".

And having that 3rd guy emerge, coupled with Okoro breaking out of his shooting slump, has definitely changed the dynamic on offense.

Garland is not a all star and has never been picked as one. He got to go to the game via default. No team is gonna start a rebuild with a overpaid pg.
Don't underestimate the ineptitude of the Brooklyn Nets. This is EXACTLY how they would start a rebuild.

This is super impressive. I have made it clear I am not the biggest fan of JBB and I do think he has some major limitations as a coach, particularly tactically. However, he really does deserve A LOT of credit for getting this team to come out ready to fight every night. That is not easy to do. We are always in the thick of games but now just need to figure out how to seal the deal and get our win rate up to where our net rating is.

Finish off the schedule before the ASB with

Feb 8 Detroit
Feb 10 at NOLA
Feb 11 Chicago
Feb 13 San Antonio
Feb 15 at Philly

We really should go 4-1 but I would be satisfied with 3-2.

Only 3 more back to backs the rest of the season - this weekend, Feb 23 & 24 (Denver, at Atlanta), and March 14 & 15 (at Charlotte, Philly).

I don’t think we’ll be doing any business with the suns

Pretty clear that Dan and Ishbia are not golfing buddies, and I absolutely think that would factor into any potential trades with the Suns....

United Wholesale Mortgage Holdings Corp. on Thursday escalated its mortgage war with Rocket Companies Inc., saying it will not do business with brokers who continue to work with the Detroit-based lender — a move Rocket calls "desperate."

UWM, the Pontiac-based wholesale-exclusive lender, is calling attention to competitors that are working to undermine the independent mortgage brokers who seek to find the best rates for homeowners and homebuyers, CEO Mat Ishbia said during a Facebook Live. It comes as Rocket Mortage, America's No. 1 mortgage lender and the dominant player in the direct-to-consumer business, is making inroads in the wholesale channel, which UWM dominates.
