The Strus is Loose

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
1-7 from three

I'm not happy with anyone from 3 to be honest. Not enough good looks and no one can hit them when they get them. Even Donny is shooting some ill advised shots when he could be getting guys involved. I'd say Strus has been better than advertised despite not hitting his shots. Niang has been nearly useless.

Shooting worse than last year after adding shooters. Dissapointed how reluctant Jerome is to pull even though he has barely played.

Been a very tough start with a really hard schedule. Max has been a bright spot, but yeah I want basically every guy on the team to shoot better and Donovan to have better selection, especially when he is not hot.

If that is what you take away, not sure we watched the same game. He took good shots, just wasnt making them, how shooting goes. He opens the floor, plays defense a hell of a rebounder for his size, great passer, didnt expect the rebounding, passing or defense. He set up Mobley on several shots perfectly.

Strus has been a very pleasant surprise, very good all around player. There have been disappointments this year so far, but the Cavs have 99 problems and Strus is not one of them.

My other thing is IDGAF what the stats say about "we are getting good quality looks, just not hitting them". Maybe just cognitive bias but it sure feels like that is not the case. The three's might be classified as open but they are not within the flow of the offense, or not a result of a good offensive set (motion, passing, screens etc), or not even results of good drive and kicks or drive-kick-pass.

Would really be interested in looking at passing and shot clock utilization as well as player movement. Last night felt like the players half-assed running a set until it "broke down" (either wasn't a good set, or because they half assed it) which resulted in Caris and Spida taking turns iso'ing with 10 left on the shot clock.

We need to keep this guy. Everything he does holistically as a basketball player produces a winning culture. I think he will shine in the playoffs..provided we get there.

If Donovan Mitchell called me “sneaky athletic” at the gym you couldn’t talk to me for a month. As they say.
We couldn't talk to you because you'd be too busy stalking him.

It does stink when his shot is off, but it's nice to know no one can slag on him, cause he's just as likely to hit 6 of 7. Definitely better overall player so far than I ever expected.
That was the Nuggets game plan vs the Heat in the Finals. Give Strus the outside shot, force Jimmy B to pass. And I like what I have seen from Strus, just think this team needs a bigger player at the 3 spot. While Dean Wade is not as good as Strus, his height was a better balance last night. Not sure why Koby still has not addressed this problem and picked up a better version of Wade. PJ Washington probably would of been available in a sign and trade, as he resigned late in the offseason

“Pass me the ball once Spyda. Cmon man. I’m automatic in the corner bruh. I’ll splash it man. I promise.”

“Fine. I believe you. Can you move over about 8 urinals?”

I think some of them are open, but yeah they aren't in the flow of the offense because, there is no flow to the offense.

You have Donovan out here freelancing not unlike Sexton and holding onto the ball too long when the double comes, and even when we have had Garland, he is not actually running the offense.

I haven't seen the offense run properly since we saw CPJ, Brobley, Bates and Merrill on the floor in pre-season. I said at the time the starters didn't seem to be running the offense. It's gone. No semblance of any flow whatsoever.

They are going away from the pick and roll, but they can't seem to get the bigs involved any other way. It's a mess

Seeing Sac run a motion offense shows how far away we are from something like that

Here are Strus 3 point stats as promised after 11 games:

Wide Open 3s: 0.9 3PM at 43.5%
Open 3s: 1.1 3PM at 35.3%
Tightly Guarded 3s: 0.7 3PM at 29.6%

Last season he averaged 1.7 3PA for tightly guarded 3s. This season he averages 2.5 3PA for tightly guarded 3s. It is still a small sample size but I don’t believe our offense is designed to get Strus easier open shots yet or we really have no offense design. Perhaps when Garland is healthy we can get more opportunities.

Welp he’s under contract for the next 317 regular season games so I think we’re in good shape on that front!

Boy there was so much talk after game 1 about how Strus was going to get so many more open shots here than in Miami....

The old one game sample size strikes again!

Just watched the Heat v Nets game. Ain’t no way he’s getting more open shots in our offense than the Heat’s.

So what do you think, @KevinLoveFan?

Is Max hot?

I mean, look at those eyes.

Zoisite green.
