2023 AFC North

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
He isn’t great. Hes good. Like all, good and great coaches, they need good/great players.
They’ve been trending down for years now. Outside of Watt, (overrated IMO) they don’t have any great players.
They have a handful of good players. I hope they keep everything intact for a couple more seasons.
Sorry but that’s just not right.

Tomlin has done so much with basically nothing the last few years. His teams overachieve every year. That roster, even with the corpse of Big Ben, was bad yet he somehow finished with a winning record year after year.

He’s legitimately a great coach. If the Steelers fired him, he’d be number one on every team’s coaching hire list.

Again, look at him the last 8 years. He’s good and definitely wouldn’t be unemployed for more than 24hrs.

But, he isn’t great. Hes just good.

I think a better question to ask about Tomlin is what defines coaching greatness for you?

Is it overachieving compared to expected record?

Is it consistently maintaining a high floor/baseline of success?

Because Tomlin has certainly accomplished both of those things in spades over the years.

But if you define greatness as consistently having success at the highest levels aka the playoffs, I wouldn’t throw Tomlin into that mix.

They haven’t won a playoff game in 8 years, ya know?

They only have 3 playoff wins total in the last 13 years.

I think that is fair. Another question- If Tomlin retired from coaching today, would he end up in the hall of fame? I think so.

My view on Tomlin is that he does the majority of the most important parts of HCing at an extremely high level- instilling a culture, holding players to that high standard, leading a locker room, etc etc.

But his complete lack of success in delegating the offense to a qualified play caller is a black hole that may prove to be more important than all of the good things he does. Their offense has been trending down for a long time, and now it feels ancient compared to the innovations in today's NFL.

I guess the big questions are: how much do the really bad picks on offense hurt the team's inability to field a good offense (Pickett and Harris are to this point both complete whiffs as 1sts), and how much say did Tomlin have in these picks?

I think he would as well, but if Tomlin (170 regular season wins, 8 playoff wins, 1 SB win) is a Hall of Famer than so is Mike McCarthy (165 regular season wins, 11 playoff wins, 1 SB win) and everyone generally thinks McCarthy is not very good.

Not necessarily apples and oranges as McCarthy has basically always has high end QB play and Tomlin only had it for the first half or two thirds of his career, but their resumes are nearly identical.

So Tomlin is basically JBB if he were an NFL coach

I do believe that their FO has left him out to dry, but don't forget that he's a pretty awful in game manager too.

His strengths are incredible but his lows are hell.

The best play for Browns fans is for the Steelers to break from tradition and overreact. Tomlin is legitimately a great coach and firing him because their quarterback is terrible, is a disastrous idea.
I hope they Fire Tomlin and Baker finally gets his big 30m plus deal this summer...

People were counting this as a win for Cincy as if the Steelers didn’t beat this exact QB in Cincinnati

I really want to find a way to free Myles. Tired of hearing about Watt. If we can somehow free Myles he will destroy the sack record

Steelers still aren’t dead. Didn’t throw enough dirt on them, but we all saw this coming.

They’re playing in Baltimore where Baltimore likely needs a win for the 1 seed

They’re all but dead but thinking they were gonna lose to Browning at home in prime time was always peak browns fan over burying them
