Dame's higher point totals are coming off of more attempts. Darius, despite having the entire defense titled against him is still shooting more efficiently.

What do you think happens to the assist numbers if Darius got to play alongside Giannis and Dame had to play alongside Niang, Okoro, and LeVert? Hell, what do you think happens to all those numbers? Dame was asked to carry the Blazers before he was traded and the result was the Blazers drafting Sharpe and Scoot.

My brother, Im going to be completely honest with you here on my opinion since we go way back..

I dont think anyone outside of a select few in North East Ohio and perhaps some people in Gary Indiana would think that Garland has played better than Lillard this year. There is no measurement to show it and the eye test certainly wouldnt say so either. You're right, we did see Dame go through a similar scenario last year with the Blazers and he ended up third team all NBA. If Garland was anywhere in Dame's league he should be able to do what he wants on the court like Dame did last year with the entire opposition focused on him. He simply can't.

I respect you a ton, but on this one we are very, very far apart.

I'll say this and leave it alone. Either we're healthy when the playoffs come, or not, but if we are healthy when the playoffs come, I suspect a lot of people on this site will be eating crow about Darius Garland and the Cavs overall tbh.

The only guy I'm a little nervous about is Mobley because he missed so much time in a development year and I don't that he should start in every matchup. It won't be an issue if Wade isn't healthy, but it could be if he is.

This thread is going in circles. I think we can all agree DG is having a down year and a top 10 PG. He has a contract at good value and we won't get fair value in a trade. He is better than Dame and its not close. Jbb needs to be replaced

Thank you for making my point. Dame, et. al., are being afforded the benefit of the doubt based on their overall career numbers with both injured and healthy rosters (and against good and bad teams). Garland is being judged solely on his performance this season the lion's share of which comes with key guys out and against the toughest parts of the schedule.

Not for nothing, but Dame, Trae and Maxey are just taking more shots to get to those higher point totals. If fans want him to take more shots, say so.

Because they have fucking proven that their good performance isn't an anomaly! Garland hasn't proven shit! Thank you for proving my point!

We all want him to do good lmao. People criticizing DG aren't going to be eating crow, we all know he is capable of better play than what he has been doing lately.

This isn't about eating crow, people are criticizing DG and concerned about his poor performance this year because they are concerned he's going to play poorly in the playoffs. People are preparing themselves for another disappointing playoffs because that's what history is telling us to expect. Not because we want to be disappointed.

Well, I suggest you re-read the critiques and ask yourself whether that appears to be the case with most of the people dogpiling him.

They're different players. Kyrie is an elite scorer but a meh PG. He's at his best when he has someone else tasked with running the offense and he can just focus on getting a bucket.

The thing is that garland isn’t an elite anything at this point. It’s always better to be elite at something

Hi, it’s me one of those apparently “dogpiling him”.

He’s been my favorite Cavalier his entire career. What @Kouki is saying is absolutely right. I’m *just now* beginning to resign myself to the idea that we may have seen his peak, and it’s not enough to be a #2 on a very good team.

I would be THRILLED if he put up a postseason performance that dispels that notion.

This specific player and topic seems to really hit home for you, and I think you’re missing the forest for trees as a result.

OK I went back about eight pages and I did not find any unfair critiques. There was only one person who said they were "done with Garland."

The common theme is that everyone is disappointed with his play this year, because they had higher expectations for his play based on previous seasons. Yes there are a number of legitimate excuses for his poor play. None of those excuses changes the fact that he's had a disappointing year.

If you are implying "Lillard is better than Garland this year" is a nasty indefensible horrible critique of Garland, well, we are so far apart that this is pointless to continue.

Yes there are probably some people here with unfair critiques. There are also probably people here who don't feel like writing an essay in defense of their statements because they are simply blowing off steam. I'm sure I have said something like "this dude sucks" in a game thread. Doesn't mean I actually think dude sucks.

May I remind people that there is an ignore feature available on this forum. Moreover, may I also remind people that some posters still think that Dylan Windler is better than Mikal Bridges

That's not what I'm implying.

We can agree he's having a down year. I'm not going to agree he's a top 10 PG. Two totally different things.

Too late everyone agreed.

Don't wanna keep rehashing the top 10 debate but I don't think most people seem to know what a point guard is

How many players have lost 20 lbs mid season and made an impact? This year if he gives us anything it's a win, but we are asking him to carry the team.

Garland and Mobley will be the reason we stay where we are or take the next step. I hope we don't do anything drastic player wise until we see these guys with a different coach. Unless some GM is stupid and just gives a surefire star SF.

The problem is that Garland was having a bad year before the jaw injury. He’s been bad pre and post injury all season.
