2023-23 Season | Game #82 | Hornets @ Cavs | April 14, 2024 | 1:00 p.m.

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Here's the real issue..no team in the EC is a juggernaut, but a few are really potent teams to face. The Cavs outside of that run they had in the first half of the season have been way too inconsistent and flighty..they play horrible against teams they should hammer but then play respectable against teams on and over their level ...if they aren't blowing leads toward the end of the game.
So we don't know what team is going to show up once their series does begin...hope I said that right.

You did. Young up and coming teams like Orlando play with house money. I remember that similarly young Bulls team with a rookie Derrick Rose drain that KG Celtics team in the first round of the 08-09 playoffs.

I don’t have a problem with tanking today and I wouldn’t have had a problem if we had gone all in for the win and ended up with the second seed. Solid arguments for wanting to get HCA through the second round, winning the division, and playing to win. Also a solid argument to avoid the Sixers who are significantly better than any other EC team other than Boston when Embiid is at least reasonably healthy.

Of course everyone in the East will be hoping Miami upsets Philly so the Celtics get totally screwed and Thibs faces Spo.

Anyway the regular season is over and we have our matchup. I hate the Magic. They derailed our Finals run, I hate Orlando and Disney, and “Magic” by Pilot is the worst song to come out of the 70s and they are using it for the fat fuck drug. First game is Saturday or Sunday. Let’s take out our frustration over last year‘s playoffs on those guys.

Bring on the Magic!

Local Sports guys need a week to fill their time as well...

EDIT:

I would have been absolutely livid had we played our starters like Thibs did to try and get a higher seed and it resulted in one of our guys getting hurt, so we can play the Pacers and then play Philly or the Knicks second round...

not worth the risk at all...

Cavs were already without Merrill, Mitchell, LeVert, Garland, Wade and Jerome, and CPJ went down in the first quarter.. That left eight rostered players and three two-way guys so some guys (JA, Strus, Okoro, Mobley) kinda have to play some minutes given who is in/out..

The Cavs decision was already made pre-game, there wasn't anything the Cavs did that likely wasn't pre-planned/discussed before the game..

The decision at the time when the game was being played could be understood to some extent given the Bucks were set to lose and the Knicks were down meaning the Cavs would have been a 2 seed with a difficult second round matchup.. Now once the dust has settled, we know the Cavs could have had their cake and eat it too..

We've seen some meaningful injuries happen in meaningless games (see, Brunson) which was likely at the top of their mind more than anything else.. This is also a team that was limping to the finish line, so that was likely top of mind to them more than some other circumstances..
I don't disagree with much of this. And I also don't totally doubt the Cavs' ability to challenge the Celtics, should we win a round this year. I agree with the "We'll see" guy and the "I agree with everyone equally" guy.

We'll see!

It's clear this organization is desperate for a series win. They aren't looking big picture playoffs. If they advance into round 2, they can try to sell us on progress.

I'm not sure Indiana is an easier match up. We have not been defending well and their pace could account for some shootouts which is not what we want to be in. They also have several key players who have playoff experience.

Orlando is the easiest match up you could ask for in my opinion. They have no playoff experience. They make the least amount of 3s per game in the NBA. They don't have offensive-minded bigs to stretch the floor.

If you can't beat the Magic, you might as well make sweeping changes this summer, because this team is going nowhere.

Here are some from the locals lol lol lol

I understand both sides of this and I'm meh about it. Ideally, it would've been nice to win the division and play Indy. A happy medium for both. But if people think Orlando is going to be a piece of cake, they're in for a surprise. We have problems defending the three. Orlando is full of young guys that will bomb them all game because they got nothing to lose.

No playoff team is a piece of cake... But give me Orlando or Indy all day over Philly or Miami...

JBB made this point before the game as well...

That first one is a beauty. Our game ended before three. Knicks game went until 3:45 and they won by one point in overtime. How was anyone supposed to know at 2:30 that the Knicks would win at 3:45?

Rest assured that if the Cavaliers had won, Knicks lost and we found ourselves playing the Sixers next week we’d have “Major Questions” for the franchise asking why we didn’t dodge the Sixers when the Bucks and Knicks did.

The franchise will have major questions to answer if we lose to Orlando. If we had the second seed and lost to Philly or Miami there would be “major question” to answer. If we had won, Knicks won and played Indiana and lost there would be “major questions“ to answer.

Would be absolutely hilarious if we beat Orlando and then Boston. Then the reporter would have “major questions” to answer.

At the time it looks like they were destined for Philly. Also Orlando doesn't take many 3s.
