AV, Cavs agree to deal - 6yrs, $42.5 million

Re: AV, Cavs agree to deal - 6yrs, $50mill

I'm really confused by all the negativity on this board. Worst case scenario we're paying AV slightly over $8 million a year. Five years from now, that will sound like nothing. There are plenty of less valuable players making a lot more than AV.

People like Dampier, NeNe, Biedrins, Murphy, Kaman, Bogut, Chandler, Curry, Dalembert all make more than AV will in this contract. There is one major difference between AV and all of these players too: He has proven to be an integral part of a championship contending team for 2 straight years...

Most big men receive offers like this based on potential alone. AV has actually earned this contract...

Ferry has only made one contractual mistake in his tenure with the Cavs and that was Hughes. Signing a developing, productive, high-energy 26 year old to a 8 mil/yr contract is a no-brainer....

I'd rather have those bigman I highlighted in your response than Andy actually. And signing a big with below average offensive game and a little above average defensive to a 8mil contract is suicide. Andy is good defender not great, hes not really that good in the post, but hes alright. Offensively he knows how to get open which isnt a bad thing, but sometimes that wont work.

You telling me Andy V is worth more than Charlie V?

Yes.

And call me crazy, but I think if you asked anyone in the NBA or associated with the NBA they'd say the same thing.

I keep saying this over and over again:

You CANNOT compare player-to-player contracts or else it's never gonna be fair comparison wise... The only way to fairly compare players salaries is by comparing what they would be worth to each team..

For example, Andy may be worth $7-$7.5 million to this team but it can be argued CV isn't worth $7-$7.5 million for this team but rather only the full MLE..

Now on the same side, CV is worth $7-$7.5 to the Pistons while Varejao is only likely to be worth around the MLE for them..

That's like saying a guy like Gerald Wallace would be worth $9-$8 million here, when that's obviously not the case... To Charlotte he's worth that because he's one of their best players but he wouldn't be worth that here... Same with Emeka Okafor, no way he's worth that money here... But since he's their best big, he's worth that there...

Re: AV, Cavs agree to deal - 6yrs, $50mill

A very reasonable deal.

Andy has holes that will likely never go away but he's also young, entering his prime, and is a true big. The deal effectively secures that he will be a Cav if healthy for the most productive years of his career and assures we won't be dependent on only 30+ year old players in the frontcourt

Even more reasonable considering the last year of his contract (which will be one of the more expensive years) will be partially guaranteed so the cost of the contract could be significantly lower.

If his first year is only MLE type money as well that gives us some room next year to work with

Everyone who over reacted...take a step back, slap yourself, and come back to post.

Ferry pulled a freakin' fast one guys, 6 yrs, 42.5 million...final year only partially guaranteed. I WANT Andy to meet those incentives, better for the team and him....

Re: AV, Cavs agree to deal - 6yrs, $50mill

I see alot of people on other fourms and a few not many here... I could be wrong. Anyways they are bashing ferry? for what We finally have two true all-stars and a possible third one In mo, Andy is comming back and I hear LeBron challenged him to get better this off season. and im not sure if you missed redbrush's post It Is a very good sign LeBron is working somehting out to. we got parker a guy who can shoot so we have options. The draft was the only bad things In my case I hope denny green turns into a Tayshaun Prince and now i kinda see the draft for the future idea. So this off season does not sound bad to me at all. It Is just crazy what i heard about Ferry... This AV singing Is wonderfull considering the real details. We needed a PF and He was the best we could get. So I say good job ferry! one more left to get!

Re: AV, Cavs agree to deal - 6yrs, $50mill

Let's see, Shaq for Wallace and Sasha. Resigned Andy V. Parker and Frye for the MLE. (if that part is true)

Other than the Congo Kid, I'd say Ferry had a pretty damn good offseason.

Re: AV, Cavs agree to deal - 6yrs, $50mill

hmmmm, im honestly not excited. Im feeling like maybe we overpaid. I was thinking due to the lack of free agent frenzy we could AV on the cheap. I was thinking somewhere around 6 mill a year. There are very few teams out there with the cap space to put 8.3 into a guy like AV. I know its not 10 mill, but damn 6 years 50 mill.

I think that this shows how important AV is to lebron. I have a feeling Ferry doesnt lock him up like he did unless Lebron doesnt want to go into the future with him. AV better be working on his game this offseason, for 8 mill a year he better be working on 20/10 number all season.

Especially including the Congo Kid, I'd say Ferry had a pretty damn good offseason.

Fixed.

So far Kid Congo is the only thing that's disappointed me this offseason as well. Considering what the Browns did this offseason I'll definitely take it.

Re: AV, Cavs agree to deal - 6yrs, $50mill

The deal is done so people might as well not complain about the contract... I'm sure Ferry knows a little better with what he is doing then any of us on here, and the thing is either way we look at it even if we could have gotten andy for a even a million less, it is not really going to hinder our chances of signing another player in the future. We have a good chunk of money clearing the books next year and we still have our mle and bae this year

Re: AV, Cavs agree to deal - 6yrs, $50mill

I don't think it's been a "great" offseason by any means, but it's been decent. Signing AV kind of saved it.
