At least Mutombo had a nice, long career when this happened, so there shouldn't be too many regrets on the issue.
BUT:
1) He didn't get a well-earned championship out of it... why did he have to play for the Rockets at the end of it all? Everyone knows there's a 0% of it happening there... And he's a true winner too, the proof being traded to the Philly Sixers in 2001 and the Nets soon after.
2) I wanted to see another player come close to the All-Time Games Played records that Kareem and Robert Parish have a stranglehold on for the last 12+ years. Now that the player with the longest active career has retired, we can only hope that Shaq or Kidd can get close in 3-5 years
... Yeah, like that'll ever happen...
But nonetheless, I like watching Games Played and Seasons Played records play out for some reason (hey Kevin Willis, just come out of retirement, play one game, and become the all-time leader in Season Played, will ya?).
3) Why did his career have to end in such a depressing way? Bejesus...
