These trades don't affect this season at all as far as $$$ goes. But 09/10 and 10/11 it does. I don't normally do these trade ideas, but I'm putting 2 and 2 together for possible deals. It's been said we pursued Vince Carter on draft night and I think we will revisit that in the near future. It has also been said that OKC is looking to clear the logjam they have at certain positions and by taking a look at their roster, they have a definate logjam at PG and C. These deals probably won't happen, but it builds towards a possible ring while also putting us in the luxary tax for the future.

Well we need to get carter now. If the nets were really considering wally for carter, then I don't see why they would turn down wally/1st for carter. I would even throw in a 2nd rounder.

I really don't want Vince. His contract is way to ugly.. I'll take him as a last resort, though if everything falls through.

I like the 1st one, but it'd probably have to happen after December 5th, as I'm not sure Fegan/AV would accept a trade to OKC. By that time, though, Snow's retirement will have probably gone through and he wouldn't be able to be traded.

I don't like the 2nd at all. I'm lukewarm on VC for Wally straight up. But to include a #1 in 2010 as well as Sasha (not to mention sending an expiring for Hassell) wouldn't be smart, IMO.

I like both trades, vc is about as good of a player we are going to get with wally and a 1st. Actually I think he still might be a top 20 talent that when properly motivated brings us a ring this year if he is our starting sg. The okc trade is nice for depth, but isnt as major an impact trade.

It's actually not too bad although I'm not convinced that the first one makes much sense unless Ferry is convinced that Watson is the answer at PG. It would be nice to have some depth at the position with West starting and then Watson taking over if he is completely outclassed throughout the season. Carters contract is def ugly and going off memory I believe he is owed around 17 mil per up until 10-11'. That said, we will still have a lot of contracts coming off the books when Wallace, Z, and the rest expire. It's worth it in my mind to get Vince.

I could live with those trades although I don't see Joe Smith being hidden away on the ir....he can be a good contributer. I would have Sene or Hickson playing in the D-league and Joe in the rotation.

Agreed 100%.

Although the first trade doesn't appear to make a ton of sense at-first, if a person looks closely, it is actually a pretty good move:

Snow & Varejao aren't gonna be playing for the Cavaliers for very long (not at-all in Snow's case), and this trade brings-in a pretty good PG at a time when there is a premium on point-guards. Even if he doesn't work for us, perhaps we can re-trade him later for an expiring and/or pick(s)? Collison is a pretty good player, and will make an excellent rotation player - and at 27 he has a manageable contract and won't be asking for stupid raises anytime soon. Sene is Center-depth for now, and since he is 22, he can be groomed to replace "Z". If he doesn't work-out... we lose nothing. If he does, then perhaps we get a big steal.

The Second trade...

Although I don't like the idea of giving-up a first-rounder AND Sasha AND Wally for VC... I think that sometimes you have to entice the other team a little bit more.

Trenton Hassell is an undersized SF, but he may make a good bench player for the two years he'd be with us. Maurice Ager is only 24 and adds depth at the SG position. He will become a restricted FA next year, so if we like him, we keep him... if not, we let him walk. Vince is Vince. People say lots of bad things about him, but one thing that doesn't lie is the numbers! He puts-up 25-5-5 every game. He can go-off for 50 on any given night. Just his presence on the court with LeBron will change the entire complexion of our offense.

Vince has put-up those numbers with defenses focusing on him... what can he do when the defenses are playing him one-on-one, or leaving him completely alone to converge on LeBron???

Yeah, these trades are good.

Yeah, I was going to put Smith as the 3rd PF and Hickson on the IR, but then I figured people would ask why I had Hickson on the IR. haha, so either way I was in trouble. :king:

Wine & Gold said some possible moves wouldn't make sense at first, so who knows, this could be a similar deal that will go down first and not make sense. Then a second or third move that will be made will eventually make everything fit together to look like a wonderful offseason.

i've never been a fan of Earl Watson and I'm still not. I like West enough but I don't see why the Cavs would gear up for their title run by getting two of the three PGs from the 07-08 Sonics.

That said, I do think Carter would be a great second banana to LeBron. He's played with superstars, he can score and he wouldn't have to shoulder the load. His contract isn't great (in fact, it's awful) but he's a legit All-Star and he could extend his years by sliding into the #2 role.
