The lockout is over. I'm excited for the 2011 fantasy football season and I'm going to spice things up a little bit.

This will be the 3rd year of the RCF DawgOnKing League. We've had great owners and I know that will continue this year.

Last year we tried to expand our league from 10 to 12 teams without success. I hope to change that this year by offering up some incentives. The following are a few of them:

Preseason Predictions: Each owner will submit a preseason vote for the league's top passer, rusher, and receiver. The winners will be awarded with a $5 bonus.

Rookie Of The Year: The owner who drafts the rookie to tally the most fantasy points during the season will receive a $5 bonus.

Week 17 Pro Bowl Game: Owners from each division will submit a week 17 "Pro Bowl" position player based on our final standings. The winning division owners will receive a $5 bonus.

The league fee this year will be $30 (PayPal only) with a 94% payout ($340):

1st Place: $200

2nd Place:$100

3rd Place: $40

I will put up the remaining cash for prizes. I'm doing this to promote league expansion and early payment by owners.

Payment deadline is August 20th. The draft will be held during the first week of September. The NFL season begins on Thurs, Sept 8th. Failure to submit by 8/20 will result in loss of held team. We will move on to the waiting list.

This message is going out to the 10 team owners from last season. Please respond with your decision to return as soon as possible so I can find new owners accordingly.

Thanks a lot guys. Looking forward to another great year. I hope our league will continue to grow and prosper. I will contribute extra $$ each year to make sure that happens.

Let me know!

Thanks,

Ryan

UPDATE: Some guys did not receive email through ESPN service so I have posted here a little ahead of schedule. Anyone interested in joining can contact me here.

I've never done fantasy football, but I'm interested if there's a spot. Am curious on how scoring/positions works for the league.

Pretty standard bro. We use default ESPN scoring but we also award 1 point per player reception. This changes the dynamic quite a bit. Adds value to players like Peyton Hillis who catch a fair amount of balls as a RB, etc.

Google ESPN scoring or go to their site for further breakdown. If you can't find it let me know and I will post it for ya.

If you're a fan of the NFL - you need to play. Period. End of story. If you're more comfortable joining a free league to experiment, I understand. If not, we would love to have ya. We have a great group of owners who are active all season long. You'll enjoy it. I guarantee.

As I stated above, I plan to grow our league moving forward. I really enjoy it. Let me know if you have any questions.

We had 10 last year. We should have no issues with 12 this year.

You are officially in. Welcome.

How would the roster look w/ 12 teams? Will there be a flex position? I've been in one league the past few years so I'm not totally experienced with all the variables.

I will post roster breakdown when I get back home.

Position Starters Maximum

Quarterback (QB) 1 4
Running Back (RB) 2 8
Flex RB/WR (RB/WR) 1 N/A
Wide Receiver (WR) 2 8
Tight End (TE) 1 3
Defense/ST (D/ST) 1 3
Place Kicker (K) 1 3
Bench (BE) 6 N/A

9 Starters with a max roster size of 15 players based on the chart above. We won't draft entire roster. It can be filled via FA/Waivers. I think we draft 16 rounds last year so with league expansion that may be reduced to 13.

Here's a article breakdown that I am basing roster size on:

http://www.cheatsheetwarroom.com/blog/post/standard-fantasy-football-scoring-system.aspx

Standard Roster Size

In most leagues the standard roster size is 15 players. In a league of 12 teams, roughly 168 players will be on some team's roster at any given time. This is an optimum configuration because it leads to a situation where the players remaining on waivers are serviceable. If there are too many above average players on the waiver wire then roster-related strategies are diminished because owners can find a good replacement at any time. If there aren't any serviceable players on the waiver wire, then those teams that hit hard times will not have a fighting chance to revive their teams. The idea is to create a scenario where the best players on waivers are serviceable, but no more and no less; a roster size of 15 players works best to accomplish this goal.

Standard League Size

The number of teams in a single fantasy football league should be such that most teams can field a good (but not great) roster. Roster strategy is one of the more exciting aspects of fantasy football, and if every team has a great roster then success is determined more by luck than by each fantasy owner's competence. The magic number of teams to achieve this goal in fantasy football is 12. Some leagues include only 10 teams, but in my opinion this configuration leads to a situation where all teams are equally stacked, thus making the league random and ultimately, very boring.

The standard fantasy football scoring system is a great baseline for anyone starting a new fantasy football league. The statistic/point-value pairs along with the other well-accepted league configurations are tried and true and will ensure that your fantasy league and roster are well-balanced and competitive.

2 spots left guys. I would like to get them filled ASAP. Who wants to join a well-established, well-run league?

Come get some.

Since we will have 12 teams this year, I think it would be a good idea to have 6 playoff teams.

Seed 1 in each conference gets a bye in the 1st round (week 14) while the 2nd and 3rd seeds play each other. Then the winners play the #1 seed in the 2nd round (week 15) followed by the championship in week 16.

That is how it is in every other 12 team league I have played in.

Funny you mention this. I was researching this just today on my flight home.

There will def be a 6 team playoff. My concern is the championship in week #16 when some teams rest their starters. I'm looking into options.

I haven't seen any problems with teams resting starters in week 16 outside of the year the year the Colts did it when they were locked into the #2 seed after week 15. Even the Patriots played Brady, Moss, Welker when they were 14-0. I think with how the new schedules are set with conference games over the last few weeks it will help prevent resting of starters.
