Last year everyone (for the most part said) Anthony Davis. The year before that (for the most part) said Kyrie Irving and the year before that John Wall, ect...

Now that the NCAA tournament is over and we've seen plenty of basketball from the prospects. I know that the combine hasn't really happened yet, but it matters a lot less in basketball then football. Please assume that any of the freshman on the list are coming out for the sake of simplicity. Who do you believe is the clear cut number one pick in this draft? Please state your case as to why you think this way. To make the list, I looked at nbadraft.net and draftexpess.

The fact that there is a poll means there is no clear cut #1. Picked Noel because I think most teams would take him #1. You could make a case for McLemore too. Smart is staying at Oklahoma St.

Noel #1 after a leg injury? Could be Oden all over again...

Always a chance, but an acl tear is nothing like a micro fracture. I couldn't see a team that depends on the pick drafting him #1. Detroit and Bobcats would draft McLemore, IMO.

Really think that it depends on who wins the lottery. I don't think Orlando, Detroit, Sacramento, or New Orleans would take Noel.

I dont think there is a clear cut 1.
Here is how I see the teams that might win it, choosing in declining order of preference. I am sure there will be a lot of opinion differences.

Team Pick
Charlotte McLemore, Dipo, Zeller, Noel
Orlando Smart, Zeller, Noel,Bennet
Phoenix Mclemore, Dipo, Smart, Bennet
Cavs Bennet, Porter, Noel, Zeller
NO Mclemore, Smart, Dipo, Zeller, Len, Porter,Bennet
Sactown, Porter, Smart, Mclemore, Dipo, Bennet

Interesting. You have Bennett as the top pick for the Cavs? I actually like him a lot as a prospect, so I wouldn't be terribly disappointed if we were to draft him. I'm not sure he's that high on our board, though.

if we one the number one, who makes sense for us? I think that was the point of the thread, in that is there a slam dunk clear cut number one pick. I dont think an organization like ours would take Noel, unless we were committed to a big name center free agent this season. Noel will not be a big contributor for a couple years. If he gets healthy, he could be a real force, but later than sooner. I dont think the team can afford to go through another tank season.

Mclemore, Dipo, and Smart are all ineresting players, but would not make a difference to the Cavs, but Bennet might. If in fact he can play small forward, he would add a great deal to the offesive side of the ball. I cannot tell you he is the real deal, but i think the Cavs are ready to make that call. You can make a case for Cody Zeller, but i am sure I would get flamed to suggest him.

I'm all in for Noel. Highest upside of anybody in my opinion. I have to disagree with you on the point of him not contributing until a couple years down the road, his defense is already elite, and put backs and cuts alone will have him averaging over 10 points a game. We are sorely needing a defensive identity and Noel I believe can be a big part of that solution.

Even if he isn't back til mid season, we still have Andy on roster along with white chocolate or whatever we call him now along with a probable free agent if Spreights opts out.

I'm still torn on Noel. The injuries scare the hell out of me. But, the biggest upside is this: If we do draft him, there is a shot to package Andy and the Lakers pick for something of serious value. That obviously still exists, but getting rid of Andy and not having Noel means Tyler Zeller is the center again next season, and that shit aint gonna fly.

Most big men prospects don't dominate the league right away. I think that's a terrible reason not to pick an elite center prospect. I know we're all anxious to get back to the playoffs but we are still in year two of the rebuild. Len wouldn't come right in and set the league on fire and I see a lot of people advocating taking him with our pick.

Noel is far and away the clear cut #1 pick..

He is one of the safest picks as well as having one of the highest ceilings... I also see him being able to impact the game from the start..

He may not develop much offensively but he won't have to...

I could see Anthony Bennett being in the running otherwise, I think it's pretty singular..

#1- Noel.

Safest pick- Porter.

Boom/busts- Len, Mclemore, Bennett, Olidipo

Of the boom/busts I think they will all become at the very least contributors in the league but the potential to bust is there.

Picks I would not be mad at (depending on where exactly we land)

Noel
Porter
Len
Bennett

any of those with the our first pick would be acceptable. Bennett barely making the cut but I am very intrigued by an undersized-super athletic front-court duo in TT & Bennett. I believe they were teammates and friends at one point as well. (Both Canadian I think)

This is assuming Noel clears medically. There's always the risk of the injury reoccurring too.

Really think that it depends on who wins the lottery. I don't think Orlando, Detroit, Sacramento, or New Orleans would take Noel.

I guess the question I'm really asking is who is the BPA without regarding to team need then.
