Me want one of these two...

1. Otto Porter 6-8 200 SF Georgetown So.

Awkwardly skinny, shaky handle and ugly looking jumper, Porter is evidence that the eye-test is not a reliable form of evaluation. He shot 61% on two-point attempts, seemingly hitting every midrange jumper that was kicked his way. He averaged 7 rebounds in 29 minutes, using his motor, length and nose to track down loose balls on the glass. He's more of an off-the-ball player who can slash in the half court, drift to open space for a jumper and run in transition. With a great feel for the rim down low, an accurate midrange stroke and solid defensive instincts, Porter presents a versatile package to offer an NBA team.

With Kyrie and Dion handling the rock a majority of the time, Porter playing off the ball would be ideal.

2. Alex Poythress 6-8 225 SF Kentucky Fr.

Whether for the better or worse, Poythress is a combo-forward with size and athleticism. His ability to face up out to the three-point line and put it on the floor increases his upside as a perimeter scoring option. He sports rhythm as a spot up shooter and the explosiveness to catch and finish at the rim.If he can hover around that 35% three-point shooting mark, Poythress will be a multidimensional threat and a difficult defensive assignment.

Same, catch-up and off the ball..

Love this kid. Hope he is still on the board!
I've always really liked Tony Mitchell (North Texas), but my goodness.

I don't think the Cavs will be in the position to get a top-5 pick again... If so then we can have that discussion of Muhammad, Zeller, Noel, etc., but right now I'm expecting a late lotto pick...

With that said, the guys that I'm going to be watching the most this season are James McAdoo, Alexander Poythress, Tony Mitchell and Adonis Thomas...

The thing that sucks is with the current construction of this roster and the strength of this roster do not complement each other well..

Right now McAdoo is probably my pipedream, as I think he'll likely be out of reach for the Cavs..

So that leaves the three of Poythress, Mitchell and Thomas who are realistic targets...

Of those guys, Adonis Thomas is the guy I really like the most for the Cavs.. If the Cavs are going to add another wing player, I think it has to be a real good defender, someone who doesn't have to have the ball in their hands to be effective and can be a good outside shooter... Thomas can be all 3 of those three things plus more with his talent level and athleticism... Now if the Cavs want to go the Thunder route and take a scorer like LeBryan Nash or Archie Goodwin and put Waiters on the bench, then they could do that, but I have a hard time seeing them do that unless it's someone like Muhammad... So with that in mind, I think a wing player in the mold of Thomas is what we'll be looking at...

Mitchell and Poythress are excellent athletes that still need to develop their games... Mitchell is much farther along in that process and looked phenomenal at the Kevin Durant Skills camp, but both are a bit raw for my liking with what the Cavs need and where they're at right now...

I'll also throw Dario Saric in there just for the heck of it, although that's more of a homer pick than anything else..

After seeing our young team Im not so sure of that. Waiters has done little to quiet his detractors. In fact at this point to me he he ooks like a stretch at the 4th pick.

if we get rid of varejoa we will be in the top 5 which by the way will be a great thing

Oh really? What makes you say he's a stretch? Because he has played a couple summer league games, a scrimmage, and two pre-season games? Clearly we've seen all we need to see from him in order to make that sort of call. We're really not going to have a fairly good idea of what he'll look like until mid-way through the season at least, and I'd say even that is too little time. Some players have break-out seasons 3-4 years into their career. We'll just have to wait and see. Saying anything this conclusive about Waiters at this point is just bad logic.

But yes, we are young and inexperienced, and there is a good chance that it will lead to yet another top five pick. I hope it does.

True that. I hope we can find a good home from him/maximize our value of him so we can plan for the future and just focus on player development this season. As a side effect, we'll happen to likely get one more top five pick, which will be great.

I'm not a draft expert, can someone tell me who's the 5 best scorers in this upcoming draft. We need offense

Hard to tell, as offensive sets in college are always weird. But from a projection wise? My best guess would be (long term, as in 3 years from now - and in no particular order):

1. Shabazz Muhammed, SG/SF UCLA - The John Wall of SG's? I think his shot is better than Wall's was (or is), but is uber athletic. Should score a ton and should be the Cavs #1 target this draft.
2. Cody Zeller, C Indiana - I am very intrigued to see how Zeller performs this year. He should dominate, as the Big 10 is kind of down this year. Is he Brook Lopez or will he learn how to rebound?
3. Tony Mitchell, SF/PF North Texas - What worries me most about Mitchell is he hasn't really picked a position. Not skilled enough to be a 3 and not strong enough to be a PF. But with the way the NBA is now, it may not be such an issue. May be redundant with Tristian on the team.
4. Alex Poythress, SF/PF Kentucky - Excited to see this kid play. Insane athletics, finishes above the rim, and can shoot a bit. What will set him apart is if he develops a mid range game.
5. CJ McCollum - Best served as a 6th man, 1st G off the bench. Could score in bunches.

Cavs need a SF, a C and a back up G. Fortunately for us there are plenty of SF's (or SG's/SF's) and C's in this draft.

For the record, that list doesn't include who I want for the Cavs.

McCollum? Obviously not with a top pick, but spending a mid round pick on instant offense and a back up G/6th, 7th man? Absolutely.

As of now, Muhammed, Noel,
Poythress, Caldwell-Pope & McAdoo are my top 5 for the Cavs. I really want to see how Noel progresses his offensive game. Defensively, he should be Anthony Davis the remix.

Cavs should be be sneaky and look toward the 2014 draft and make a move with one of the worst projected teams that season for a chance to grab Jabari Parker.

Kid is going to be a superstar.

The statement was Waiters has done nothing to quiet his detractors. And at this point looks like a stretch!!! And couple that with the fact he was a nonstarter in college and negative report from former teammates.

Well what has he done??
If we could redraft I doubt if Waiters would be in the top 7 with drumond, barnes etc still on the board.

A non-starter who was the best player on his team...

scouting report on otto porter.
He looks like a MKG clone and has great size. I think the cavs will fall in love with him because he brings athletisism and a non stop motor. And when you are 6'8 with a 7'1 wingspan and are quick he has great defensive potential.
His mid range shot is great he shot 46% from 17ft to 3

Way too early to make up my mind on these two, but I have my eye on Isaiah Austin and Kyle Anderson. Austin is too skinny and will probably always be that way, but he's a talented legit 7 footer with an incredible wingspan and he could be a pick and pop/roll beast with the ability to block some shots on D. Kyle Anderson seems like a good guy to have next to two ball-dominant guards: he can play the 3 or shift over to the 4 in small lineups, and his passing, rebounding and vision are elite for the position.

Kid is going to be a superstar.

If Andrew Wiggins reclassifies, let's be even sneakier and land two such picks so we can have him too. :chuckles:

Alex Poythress looks like a beast and athletic enough to be a SF. If he can make that transition to SF he would be such a east in the league. I have my eyes on him.
