2014 NFL Draft Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Re: 2014 NFL Free Agency Thread

If this shit about rolling with Hoyer is true, it will just about ruin it for me.

Putting a solid foundation together only to pass on a top QB prospect would piss me off to no end.

I dont think they are that high on Bortles, and they probably think Bridgewater wont make it past Jax. Johnny Football is not even under consideration in the top 5.
There really isn't more than two legit top qb prospects (some only think one in TB)

Unless we're sacrificing him to appease the football Gods and rational football fans, GTFO.

I think we're all paid up on sacrificing Qbs.

My counter is are any of these guys franchise QB's? Furthermore, will they be there at 4? 3 head coaches are on the record for loving Hoyer. Not agreeing/disagreeing, and I personally love Bortles, but I'm not so sure I would pass on Mack or Clowney for him.

My position is rather simplistic: how are we supposed to know if we don't try? I hate the risk of letting one slip past us and flourishing elsewhere.

Figured I'd post some numbers from UM's pro-day as someone mentioned Gallon as a nice option for that slot-receiver in this years draft (billmac?)

Wideout Jeremy Gallon built upon his own sparkling showing in Indianapolis during the Pro Day workout, however, recording a 10-10" broad jump and a 39.5" vertical -- explosiveness which complements the 4.49-second 40-yard dash he ran at the Combine.

At just 5-foot-7 (1/2), 184 pounds, Gallon lacks the size scouts would prefer and he is competing against a receiver group that is as deep and talented as any position in the draft. He's a proven playmaker who recorded a career-high 80 receptions for 1,284 yards and nine scores as a senior and could prove a steal if still on the board in the late rounds.

Bit small, not much bigger than Benjamin, thicker though and could also provide some depth in the return game. As a UM fan, he would make a nice option for a slot WR, but this class is so deep, I don't think he comes into play until the late 5th round since he's smaller. His short area game is a strength and does good with route running.

The one UM player I actually do hope we look at is Michael Schofield - RT. Who improved his broad jump to 9' even at his pro-day, heck of a lot better than his 7'9" at the combine. He's quick and strong, needs work with technique and leverage, but someone who I think could push Schwartz. Since most fans are split on Shwartz, he'd make for a good pick somewhere in the 4th round on. Thinking he could also play some RG, so some versatility is there.

The other 2 guys mentioned in the article are fools gold (Fitz, Gordon). Never played up to their numbers in games. Fitz played hurt ever since his injury and never put it back together and Gordon was out of position alot and seemed afraid to tackle at times. Lewan was mentioned, but there's no chance he makes it to #26 (dream scenario as he would be a freak beast at RT with Thomas on the left side)

Sorry, I didn't get to expand past my homer guys this year as unforseen events popped up 3/4 of the way into the college season which left me less time to watch other players.

Kiper Jr's new mock has Bortles falling to us at #4 FWIW.

Khalil Mack at number one overall, I'd like to be surprised...but I'm not.

He's that good.

I thanked this post because I thought you were being sarcastic. Sincerely hope I'm right. Kiper is off his meds again. I mean I like Mack a lot, but at number 1? Not a chance.

I was not.

Mack is absolutely worthy of the distinction. Absolutely DO NOT think he will go number one overall, but my case is that he is more than deserving. He fits the Texans defense so perfectly, on a team that is so desperately in need of linebackers and a relevant pass rush outside of Watt.

The fact that Gallon set the single season reception yards record with Devin Gardner throwing him the football is damn impressive. I've watched a lot of UM football, and Gallon has been nearly unguardable the last 2 seasons. The best thing about him, is even at his size, he is capable of making the 50/50 catch. He's so good at high-pointing the football and using his body to shield defenders and make catches.

You then think about how defenses would bracket cover him because UM was limited on offensive weapons, but Gallon still always got his. Kid is just a great player and will make some team really happy. Gallon getting 1 on 1 coverage is a problem for any defense. Explosive, quick burst athlete, with great hands and timing...kids gonna be good. And he'll likely make it past rd 5 which is insane. All because he doesn't have great height...I get it. But when you watch him play it feels like he's closer to 6'7 than 5'7. Not the best comparison but he reminds me a little of Steve Smith. Guys that play much bigger than they are and are extremely physical. Great hands and route runner to match...I truly believe he'll be one of the best slot receivers in the NFL within 2 years.

Has a LB ever been number one overall?

Aundray Bruce 1988, Brian Bosworth in the Supplemental in 87.

Von Miller, LaVar Arrington, LT, Kevin Hardy, Quentin Coryatt, Cornelius Bennett and others have gone #2

Pass rushers (like Mack) have also been taken first, like Mario Williams or Courtney Brown
