2017-18 Cleveland Indians Offseason

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Maybe you missed Heyman's word that Boston is heavily involved with Santana's reps, thats worrisome.

No, I didn't.

But maybe I did miss where "Boston is heavily involved with Santana's reps" all of a sudden means "Santana signing with Boston".

Like I said man, relax. Lot of teams cast a large net early in free agency. Way the game works.

And often times, stuff gets leaked out cause it's already over with...

Also, keep in mind @Real Deal and anyone else freaking out about reports of other teams interest, and none mentioning the Indians.

When the Indians are doing something, they are almost always very tight lipped.

@Real Deal I'll be honest, I agree with Bimbo in this argument

I am not against Bautista and if we can get him cheap then I don't see why not! At the same time I don't think he fits what we need in my mind. I feel that outside of Santana a RH OF is the target. I'd much rather put the money into a veteran like Cain but even making a move to bring back a Jackson does make sense as well since he fit in well here.

The Indians though may make a bunch of small moves or one more major one here soon. With so many players out of options and the 40 man roster deadline approaching on Nov 20th this is the time we may start seeing some moves. Luckily the Indians do not have a long list of guys needing protecting (2-3 at most) and with 3 spots open and a few players not likely to make the team, they may make moves (aka Crockett/Armstrong for cash/player to be named later)

Waiver wires they will probably look for left handed pitchers and RH bats with an option year left. They grabbed a bunch of guys last year on waivers and I think they will grab one or two that way and they will make their own cuts themselves, so moves will be made before thanksgiving.

Just a personal hunch...

But I wouldn't be surprised to see the Indians kick the tires on Bautista. Incentive heavy deal to him wouldn't be the worst move they could make.

Was thinking the same; seemed like we had some interest last offseason after no other team was interested in him

I love the offseason award voting results. Some guy named Mark Bowman just voted Kris Bryant 1st for NL MVP, amazing. Two had Votto 5th. Some dunce had Archie Bradley on his ballot which in itself is funny, but had no other relievers on it including Jansen. Hilarity

Am sure there will be some who have Jose much lower than he should be. We will see.

2017 AL MVP results:
Jose 3rd
Lindor 5th
Kluber 7th
Edwin 20th

Rustin Dodd of KC had Jose 1st, what an idiot. All of Ramirez votes were 4th place or higher, with the exception of someone from the Boston Globe who voted him 6th.

Kluber got a 3rd place vote from the same guy who had Jose 6th lol.

Edwin got one sole vote for 7th.

Well all is quiet but the 20th is the 40 man roster set date if I remember correctly so I expect some baseball news by Monday. I don’t think the Indians will do a whole lot

Man it would be a bummer to lose Santana. Really hope they can get a agreement done there, because he's definitely needed.

Would love Bruce back as well, but it doesn't feel like he will be back around. Still, he was clutch for the Indians and I hope they at least extend him a offer so he considers returning.

I'm assuming the Tribe has next to no chance at acquiring Stanton from Miami. They may actually have pieces to get a deal done, but that is a lot of cash.. Cash they do not have.

But man.. It would be such a nasty move and having him in this lineup would be beyond exciting.

I'll stop now, though. Gonna suck seeing him in Boston.

We can still try to get one of the other OFs from the Marlins, but I am not sure what would be the cost just yet

Tomorrow is the deadline for 40 man rosters so I am personally waiting to see what happens around the league.

Dec 1 is the non-tendered date (Almonte I think is eligible and will be non-tendered)

I just wanna see what they do tomorrow through Tuesday since it’s a good probability they show what their plans are with Santana and the Rule 5/how they are replacing Jackson and Bruce

Some random trade notes from Terry Pluto from the GM meetings.

While it’s unclear if any deals will materialize, a slew of Indians drew trade interest at this month’s general managers meetings, according to Terry Pluto of cleveland.com. Specifically, teams inquired about a few Indians pitchers – including right-handers Carlos Carrasco, Trevor Bauer and Mike Clevinger– as well as catchers Roberto Perez and Yan Gomes. Clubs also approached the Tribe about a couple less heralded members of the organization in outfielder Greg Allen and minor league righty Shane Bieber, Pluto adds. Of those players, it’s clear Carrasco would warrant the largest return, but there’s no reason for the Indians to move him. Conversely, the Tribe would be open to dealing either Perez or Gomes, Pluto suggests, considering the team has high-end prospect Francisco Mejia waiting in the wings behind those two.

Pretty much 0% chance the Indians trade any of the pitchers named above. I wouldn't be opposed to trading one of the C's to be honest, but they'd have to get a solid return.

Indians at least in 18 aren’t going to trade any of those guys unless they over pay for them in return. In 19 we will have some holes to fill so if we make any trades it will be then (aka in 19 our bullpen, Brantley, Chisenhall, Tomlin etc are all gone.) so we will need to swap a veteran or two for younger guys to replace them. I just cannot see us moving Greg Allen at this point since we will need him next season in the bigs and we have sincerely missed a Lofton type of player for many years now.

YU CHENG DO IT!!!!

Just one of my chants back at Lake County. Loved watching him play and very nice with the fans. Happy to read he's on the 40 man, big accomplishment for a ball player.
