2017-18 Cleveland Indians Offseason

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
@AZ_

Chris asked about Yonder, would like to hear your opinion on him since you've been on vacation for awhile. Also Yandy, Naquin, and Greg Allen since you mentioned them earlier. Probably hard to have much of an outlook this far in advance, but curious regardless.

Thoughts on Alonso?

I’d say he’s a tremendous fit for the lineup as currently constructed.

While there are ppl like the previous poster above who likely never appreciated Santana while he was here, will certainly miss him when gone at the first sign of a strikeout, or most notably when this team sees less pitches.

Defensively is the biggest area of concern. That part will be what makes or breaks his time in Cleveland.

Are you in the same camp as me in believing that Yandy Diaz will ultimately be Alonso's platoon partner at 1B this season especially with J-Ram heading back to 3B and Kip returning to 2B?

I 100% agree we have as good a shot as any other team in the AL to get to the World Series.

Nobody matches our rotation and our bullpen is as good as any other.

While I'm not as down on our lineup as others, it does worry me that roughly half of our lineup is either inconsistent (Lonnie, who had a terrible 2nd half, Yan [inconsistent is being kind at this point]) or a question mark health wise (Brantley, Kip).

I understand Brantley is expected to be 100% and I won't label him injury prone, however whenever he does get hurt, it always seems like he's out for much longer than expected.

When Kip is healthy, he's fantastic. We've seen that. The problem is when he isn't healthy, he's just plain awful.

While we have no reason to believe Brantley and/or Kip will be hurt again in '18 and it's obviously no guarantee Lonnie's 2nd half struggles will carry over into '18, I don't think people are out of line or stupid to question the lineup some and are still holding out hope we can add a more dependable piece.

I wouldn't be worried about Chisenhall's terrible second half. He was coming off a 6 week DL stint, played for 2 weeks, went on the DL for another 10 days, came back for a few games, and then saw extremely limited time in the ALDS. It was only an 18 game sample over 49 ABs and the guy clearly wasn't right.

I'd be more worried about his health. I count 4 times he was on the DL last year: the 2 mentioned above, the first week of the season, and another 2 weeks end of May - early June.

Really sucks he got hurt again late summer because he was on an absolute tear. If he's healthy I think he'll be the same old Chisenhall, which is a very solid platoon RFer.

I don’t see any other way as currently constructed, though I’d definitely like them to add a right-handed outfielder who can take the pressure off Brantley.

Diaz would also be that guy, so I’m not sure how committed they are to actually platooning Alonso.

The other issue is Urshela being out of options.

There's a cluster at the top the Indians would be wise to sort through before Spring Training.

Gonzalez should make this team as the utility man, that makes Urshela's spot on the roster less important.

You can send Diaz down, but if you have Ramirez at 3B there aren't any at-bats for Urshela. Maybe they can move him for some pen competition.

Wouldn't be surprised to see the Yankees go after Darvish now.

Yankees and Astros adding talent, Indians subtracting talent is what this off-season has been.

But we still have the rotation of domination!!

Really hope Brantley and Kipnis return to form for my own sake.

Yankees actually didn't buy this round of wins, since most of the team was drafted or acquired via trade. They made the team properly this time and now they are going to be a pain to beat in 19 and beyond. They still have some holes that they haven't filled in yet.
This is such a simplistic way of looking at things that just makes 0 sense

They technically traded for Stanton. But it is their unlimited cashflow which allowed them to basically accept a salary dump from the Marlins. So saying they acquired Stanton "through a trade" is technically true but anyone who even has a semblance of understanding of the MLB would know how stupid that statement sounds. Marlins were living well beyond their means and the Yankees with their endless cashflow were there to capitalize.

Not to mention that bullshit they pulled with Chapman to basically lend him to the Cubs before just throwing money at him AND getting the prospects

If you think the Yankees are on a level playing field with their build then holy shit are you naive coach
