We were up in every single one of those series as well right?
We were never up in the series vs the Marlins. Teams traded wins the entire series. Record wise, the best we were was 1-1, 2-2 and 3-3. Now, we lead in game 7 with the series tied 3-3, so if you put it in those terms, yes.

And we never lead vs Tampa during the one game playoff.

We were up 2-0 vs Boston in 99, 2-1 vs Seattle, and 3-1 in 07 and 16.

We were down 2-1 to Seattle in the 95 ALCS and 2-1 to the Yankees in the 97 ALDS, so we do have some comebacks in our ledger.

edit - Also pretty sure we were leading at times during games 3 and 5 vs the Marlins as well.

You have to pickup Brantley's option.

The reward far outweighs the cost. You aren't finding a guy for 11 million who can do what he does, cause those guys are getting 20+ a year. The fact that the shoulder wasn't a problem this year is a big plus for me. I think its a no-brainer to pick up that option.

And, whether we like it or not, Kipnis will be the Opening Day 2B IMO, barring an injury like this year. Jose will be back at 3B, and I don't think Gio is on the team after this season. I think Diaz goes to a corner OF spot to take over the role of Jackson too, and kind of acts as the old Ramirez super utility man role.

We do have young kids who are ready or knocking on the door, but we also have Miller, Allen, and Brantley for just 1 more year, so I think we see a big push this off season.

What Brantley DOESN’T do is stay on the field. He’s Mr. Glass.

It would almost be funny if it wasn't so damn depressing. Blow a 3-1 and 2-0 lead back-to-back seasons. Lose game 5 to the same pitcher that couldn't get it done for us in 07. CC has one good outing against Boston and we are WS champs.

Thank the Lord for Lebron James and the Cavs.

The irony is absolutely cruel.

If I were theistic, I would be convinced that god was tormenting us. Even though I’m NOT theistic, I’m HALF convinced that god is tormenting us.

The last few years have been super fun with the Cavs and Indians doing their thing, but man, I'm starting to see what's on the horizon in the next year or so when the Indians' window begins closing as well as the Cavs'. Then we'll be stuck with rebuilding teams (one in the Cavs who will likely never see another Finals appearance after LeBron leaves) and, um, that other team that plays football.

Good. Lord.

God is not tormenting us.

Jose Mesa choked. Pronk couldn't hit. We ran out of pitchers last year. Our batters had no plate disciple this year and our defenders sucked. We pressed.

This is all on the Cleveland Indians.

I’d say they overachieved last year and underachieved this year, but neither year were they the best team in baseball. We should be very pleased with anothe AL Champions trophy to add to the case.

Nobody is pleased with those things. A WS title is what we need to see in our lifetimes. This franchise has just dealt out an unconscionable amount of pain.

As cruel as the Browns and Cavs were, in the 80s, it is nothing compared to the heartbreak the Indians have dealt out in the last 25 years. The collapses we had to witness in 1997, 1999, 2007, 2016, and 2017 were cruel and unusual. Heck - there’s another late-season collapse in there, where they lost the last 6 games and missed the playoffs. THAT had a name, until we got kicked in the balls a few more times.

Why fill a stadium for a franchise that does nothing but kick you in the nads?

Not sure why you would think the Indians' window is closing after next season. A lot of their core pieces (especially starting pitching and up the middle of the diamond) are locked down through 2020. Doesn't mean things can't go sideways in terms of injuries or regression in certain players, but I think there's still some good reason for optimism with this team until the end of the decade.

I hope you're right. I just see too much shit getting mixed up. Are we going to lose Santana and Bruce? Probably. Edwin will be older and already regressed slightly this year as expected. Kluber, Carrasco, Bauer, Lindor, and Ramirez are all still young or at least decently young, but what about guys like Kipnis and Brantley who are 30 and riddled with injuries? They didn't contribute ANYTHING this year so I guess losing them may not be huge especially if they can be replaced with good players, but they were big in the clubhouse I imagine. Then we're also losing Miller after next year right?

Just too much uncertainty. I'm sure we'll be great next year, but after that I am not expecting anything. Could be wrong though and hope so.

There are some players on the team that I feel don't have what it takes to win a title. They can try but they just don't have that mindset (Kluber, Kip, Brantley and you may have to include JRam and Lindor in there as well).

Last year worked because we had some players that won a world series (Rajai, Nap) this year we really didn't have anyone of that ilk for the Locker Room. We had guys that played in last year's world series but when things got tough they choked.

Barring injuries or other unanticipated fuckery the Indians are going to be a good club next season. The question is, how do they deal with the way their season has ended the last two years? Are they going to let postseason meltdowns define their legacy, or are they going to be tough enough and resilient enough to change the narrative? I never thought I would question this club's character but make no mistake, their character is in question. How will they respond?

Oh I totally agree. Speaking of beyond 2018 though. And I also agree about the character questions, they are there.

Luckily our division is bad, so I think we can certainly win that.

Why I think we will regress?
-Santana is a free agent
-Bruce a free agent
-Brantley will more than likely get hurt again.
- Smith is a free agent
- Jackson is a free agent and given our current OF, I cant say I feel great about a full years production
- Inning eater Shaw is a replacement
- Regression to the mean for Lindor & Ramirez

This year's active payroll is $139, and next years is $96, but that does not include arbitration for a ton of guys. Not much wiggle room to improve unless we decline the options of Brantley & Logan (no brainer). That drops us to $78 mil.

I had to skip past about 30 pages of posts and I assume someone has already said this, but if so I'll add to it.

This team flat out didn't deserve to advance. They didn't continue to do the things that got them here. They didn't field. They swung at horrible pitches. The pitchers nibbled and weren't aggressive in pounding the zone. Our ace was ordinary at best and not pitching like an ace. Our clutch hitters were anything but clutch.

If the Indians would have played all season the way we played against NY we never would have made the playoffs. I'm not happy about the way we underperformed. But considering how badly this team crapped the bed I'm glad the season is over.

I don't know if much has been said about teams that over perform in the RS tending to fall flat in the playoffs. Seems like we just suffered that fate and I don't understand why it happens.
