2017 Browns Off Season Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Poyer was playing well in 2016 but then he suffered that cheap hit against the Titans, ending his season. The strong safety position next to him was a nightmare, and then when Poyer was gone it created a hole that was never filled.

I don't blame the front office for letting Poyer walk, but I absolutely don't know what they were thinking never addressing FS in free agency or the draft after letting him walk.

He doesnt want to be traded

Forget it, he's rolling.

Stockholm syndrome.

Besides, even if he doesn't retire this year, by the time we are good he won't be on the team and we have gotten nothing from one of the few trade chips this team has had since 99

It's a pretty common view on cleveland.com

What you're doing, while accusing Joe Thomas of having Stockholm Syndrome, is called a self-fulfilling prophecy. You're literally twisting the words from his mouth to fit your assumption/narrative. Other people call this trolling.

You met huber?

You mean what people do on here every day? The other day I saw someone got an autograph from Joe. He wrote "I hope we win a game this year"

Free Joe.

I thought they made a big offer to some FA safety who took less money to play elsewhere. That may have caught them by surprise.

That was Tony Jefferson who signed with the Ravens, saying, "I don't play football for money" (Video clip @ 1:50).

I thought it was him but wasn't sure. He was also more of a strong safety, which really would not have helped our biggest hole. But it would have been nice anyway. Honestly think not filling the hole at FS was the single biggest glaring error of the last FO. There were explanations/excuses on the QB side that weren't terrible. No excuses for not having an FS, though.

Just goes to show you that the people (person) tasked with creating the roster really couldn't recognize the needs as well as he needed to. Transactionally, Sashi was shrewd. I don't know that he knew he had an in-the-box safety in Kindred already and while that position could be upgraded, he's been solid playing closer to the LOS.

Big question in this case if they had signed Jefferson, would they still have targeted Peppers? He seems like a guy both
Gregg Williams and the analytics-oriented scouts would have been on. It seemed a given that the one place he would not succeed was deep safety (hell the NFL.com scouting report literally said under "weaknesses" that he was "just a guy when asked to play deep safety")..

Just draft Malik Hooker, dammit.

They may have drafted Peppers anyways since it's possible he could do a lot of things on the field since he did in college.

Your last statement is why I feel you draft the best DB in the class, whether he plays CB or FS is irrelevant since we need help at both positions. We cannot keep skipping on high rated safeties in the draft and expect to win. We got SS on the roster, now we need some FS as well.

Hooker hasn’t been able to stay on the field dating back to college. He is damn good but he’s shown to be injury prone.

Hooker was playing pretty well average before the injury.

Though he did at least have a few INTs.

The book on Peppers' career certainly isn't written, but if they don't fuck up the 4th pick they can certainly combine to provide more value to a franchise than he does to the Colts.
