Francona confirms Santana likely to leadoff, Ramirez likely to hit 5th.
Brantley to hit 3rd if available.
DH - Santana
SS - Lindor
LF - Brantley
1B - EE
2B - Ramirez
RF - Guyer
C - Gomes
3B - Diaz/Urshela
CF - Naquin/Jackson
Real debate starts when Kipnis returns:
DH - Santana
SS - Lindor
LF - Brantley
1B - EE
3B - Ramirez
2B - Kipnis
RF - Chisenhall/Guyer
C - Gomes/Perez
CF - Naquin/Jackson
Can/should Kipnis hit that low, is that the wisest use of assets? Will someone else at the top need to be moved down based on performance/injury?
Lots of scenarios could be at play in the first few weeks. Lots of good problems to have.
My ideal line-up:
- Kipnis
- Lindor
- Brantley
- Encarnacion
- Ramirez
- Santana
- Chisenhall/Guyer
- Gomes/Perez
- Naquin/Jackson/Almonte
But why give your best OBP hitter in a highly motivated contract year less at bats by placing him 6th in the order?
My perfect lineup looks like this:
1.Santana
2. Kipnis
3. Lindor
4. EE
5. Brantley
6. JRam
7. Guyer/Chizz
8. Jackson/Naquin
9. Gomes
Flip Naquin and Jackson with Gomes and that's mine. Just my opinion, but after what we saw last year from the top of the order, I think it would be foolish to change it...also...love J Ram, but Brantley would protect Encarnacion much more.
1. Santana
2. Kipnis
3. Lindor
4. EE
5. Brantley
6. JRam
7. Gomes
8. Chiz
9. Naquin
That lineup will rake. I'm really hoping Naquin will build upon a solid rookie season. Also look for Yandy to appear soon. Once Zimmer is ready it appears Tito will have some good problems to figure out.
If Naquin wants to build off that solid rookie year. I pray he learned how to hit a fastball. Because all I remember is Game 6 with the bases loaded. He went down on fastballs.
It's not fastballs he struggles with...its pitches up in the zone.
Dude turned quite a few fastballs around last year, and drove them the other way as well...as long as they were knee high or lower. Pretty sure his 1st career HR was a fastball he drove to left center...
When pitchers started attacking him belt high is when he struggled...Verlander was the first guy I saw really exploit it post All-Star break.
