2017 Cleveland Indians

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Francona confirms Santana likely to leadoff, Ramirez likely to hit 5th.

Brantley to hit 3rd if available.

DH - Santana
SS - Lindor
LF - Brantley
1B - EE
2B - Ramirez
RF - Guyer
C - Gomes
3B - Diaz/Urshela
CF - Naquin/Jackson

Real debate starts when Kipnis returns:

DH - Santana
SS - Lindor
LF - Brantley
1B - EE
3B - Ramirez
2B - Kipnis
RF - Chisenhall/Guyer
C - Gomes/Perez
CF - Naquin/Jackson

Can/should Kipnis hit that low, is that the wisest use of assets? Will someone else at the top need to be moved down based on performance/injury?

Lots of scenarios could be at play in the first few weeks. Lots of good problems to have.

Is anyone interested in making some "bold" predictions for the Tribe or any other team this season? I'll start with my prediction that the Trube will have the Central all but wrapped up by July which prompts both Kansas City and Detroit to unload some of their bigger names. Look for Eric Hosmer to end up in Boston and Verlander to be a Yankee.

I could see putting Kip 3rd in the lineup and then use Brantley to protect Edwin and Ramirez to protect Brantley.

I do trust Tito for sure to come up with the right answer, he is a genius when it comes to lineups.

My ideal line-up:

  1. Kipnis
  2. Lindor
  3. Brantley
  4. Encarnacion
  5. Ramirez
  6. Santana
  7. Chisenhall/Guyer
  8. Gomes/Perez
  9. Naquin/Jackson/Almonte

But why give your best OBP hitter in a highly motivated contract year less at bats by placing him 6th in the order?

My perfect lineup looks like this:
1.Santana
2. Kipnis
3. Lindor
4. EE
5. Brantley
6. JRam
7. Guyer/Chizz
8. Jackson/Naquin
9. Gomes

Flip Naquin and Jackson with Gomes and that's mine. Just my opinion, but after what we saw last year from the top of the order, I think it would be foolish to change it...also...love J Ram, but Brantley would protect Encarnacion much more.

Agreed with you on Brantley (assuming he's 100%), plus I love Lindor and EEs OBP and Jram is legit with RISP with or without help from Brantley in front of him.

1. Santana
2. Kipnis
3. Lindor
4. EE
5. Brantley
6. JRam
7. Gomes
8. Chiz
9. Naquin

That lineup will rake. I'm really hoping Naquin will build upon a solid rookie season. Also look for Yandy to appear soon. Once Zimmer is ready it appears Tito will have some good problems to figure out.

If Naquin wants to build off that solid rookie year. I pray he learned how to hit a fastball. Because all I remember is Game 6 with the bases loaded. He went down on fastballs.

It's not fastballs he struggles with...its pitches up in the zone.

Dude turned quite a few fastballs around last year, and drove them the other way as well...as long as they were knee high or lower. Pretty sure his 1st career HR was a fastball he drove to left center...

When pitchers started attacking him belt high is when he struggled...Verlander was the first guy I saw really exploit it post All-Star break.

Surely he'll have worked on this in the off-season and this won't be a career long problem...

Right?

I know its not likely, but I'd like to see Jose leading off with Santana in the 5 spot

Once Kip returns:

Ramirez
Lindor
Brantley
Encarnacion
Santana
Kipnis
Chisenhall/Guyer
Gomes
Naquin/Almonte
