Do Not Sell My Personal Information
@sportscoach the point of me posting Brantley's numbers, and bringing up his increased swings and misses isn't to say his current production isn't great. It's to say that it probably isn't sustainable unless he starts making contact at a higher rate.

That is true, but honestly whatever production we get out of him will be a bonus especially since we didn't have him last season. Also Brantley is good at making adjustments and when he starts to struggle you will see an adjustment then, but until then and he stays hitting the way he is, I can deal with it.

He's good at making adjustments, yes. I'm not sure there's an adjustment to be made if you're simply not seeing the ball as well as you used to. It's something, I believe will come back over time though.

Again, not saying I can't "deal" with his current level of production. There's just a fear of that level dropping off if there aren't some improvements. I feel like you keep missing this aspect of my posts.

His production is not a bonus, he's on the team, and we need him performing at a high level if we are going to go the places we want to go.

Honestly with Brantley I will worry when and if his production actually takes a nosedive. I know he keep tracks of his swing and so does his dad. As long as he is healthy he will be a productive player so those off stats don't worry me at all.

I did read the whole thing don't worry and I get it could be a bad thing in the long run, but honestly i have no worries, his numbers will be there at the end of the season even though some of his stats currently at the moment could spell trouble in the long run. I am going off more of a hunch, but with who he has in his circle, I would put good money on the fact he will correct things when the time comes and later in the season, I really do think he will correct the errors that you are seeing right now. If it was Almonte or someone like that I would worry, but not with Brantley

Well it seems like Kluber has been battling some issues with his back and last night he couldn't overcome it. There is a good probability of him getting moved to the 10 day DL before his next start and calling up likely Clevinger for a start or two. I think it's smarter to rest him and get him healthy for the post season and the end of the season rather than push through the injury. So I expect within the next day or so to see a move on the roster. Clevinger may get called up first or they call up like Crockett until the day Clevinger starts depending on what Francona wants to do.

Why is Free Throw percentage so important?

Those that downplay batting average annoy me. Is it the only thing that matters? Obviously not.....but stop downplaying when a guy is hitting .200 - it means you're not doing that well.

But it's his only stat. Yandy hits 280. Zimmer hits 270. Strike out rate is also really important to him. That's it. And it's been discredited numerous times.

If you tell me someone hits 200, but has an OBP of 330 and then bring up a 250 batting average and say OBP is 330, I'm going to discredit the difference in batting average.

BA is an antiquated judgement of a player, and is probably the least important stat in a slash line.

Those that use it as seemingly the only barometer for what defines success are likely ignorant.

Every stat is important to me, they all have there select impact on a game, but if player x is hitting .230+ AVG with a .350+ OBP then ill downplay the average any day because he makes up for it by getting a BB which is a damn single to me.

OBP is the real average 'to be sincere', and Guyer isn't cutting it :chuckle:

I just consider walks slightly less valuable than a single because you're very likely not going to be scoring anyone on a walk. With a single, you could be scoring someone who is on second or third.

Then again, the other people on base is kind of out of the batter's control.

It's interesting stuff.

By the way friends, Cody Allen is reliever of the month.

Follow that up, Kluber on DL, Colon called up

Batting average is important to casual fans since it's what they see and understand. Sports geeks/hardcore fans will look a lot deeper and look at all stats to evaluate players, but you still have to use the eye test as well. There is a stat for almost everything in baseball anymore if ya know where to look on the internet

Well Kluber hit the 10 day DL and Colon got called up to replace him on the roster until we need Clevinger this weekend. Then someone will be sent back down on Sunday for Clevinger. I don't know if he will be up for one or more starts since we don't need another Pitcher until after the ten day stint is up.
