2017 College Football Season/Playoff Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Posted this in the OSU/Wisconsin game thread, but this thread is more appropriate. I'm not a fan of 2 teams from the same conference going to the playoffs, without clear separation of those 2 from the rest of the teams. The debate should be UGA/Bama and OSU/USC. Two easy choices, imo.

1) Clemson
2) Oklahoma
3) Georgia
4) Ohio State
5) Alabama
6) Auburn
7) USC
8) Wisconsin
9) Penn State
10) Miami (FL)

How I have it at least.

I'm guessing this is what it will be, except flip flop Georgia and Oklahoma.

I don't see why a 3 loss Auburn who just got exposed by UGA should be above Wisconsin (1 Loss) or even 2 loss PSU.

If they're fair, at a minimum Wisky is ahead of Auburn.....1 and 3 losses is a massive difference.

Here is my prediction

I just fear the Wisconsin game wasn't enough of a statement. Buckeyes just looked sloppy on offense especially JT. Dobbins had a great game but it's not a headline anywhere. He rushed for 176 yards on 17 carries but 130 of those yards came on 2 carries. The 46 yards on 15 carries just didn't make him jump out of the screen. He wasn't dominate enough to take over the game and put it away.

I do think the Buckeyes resume is better but they needed to come out of the Wisconsin game with people saying "man this is a good team". After the first half I thought they made that statement, the second half left me questioning it. It's just the fact of a JT Barrett lead offense, when they lean on him, he just doesn't get the ball into playmakers hands. The wow factor just leaves the offense and it becomes a dink and dunk offense with JT running.

ESPN Power Rankings as of this morning:

You can take away the 2 longest runs from any RB in any game and make it look like that...

JK was great in that game. He is not the reason we didn't dominate that game...not at all. In fact, he was the most dominant skill player on the field for us last night. By a long shot.

Another thing...something lost in this debate is Auburn. Not that they could get in, they won't. But a week ago they whooped Alabama's ass. We all knew for a fact before yesterday's game that Auburn was the better team than Alabama. So...what happened last night to change that? Alabama didn't play Georgia this year so it's not like you can say they did better against them.

I think an easy out for the committee would just be to continue having Auburn over Alabama. And hell, they could put USC over both, too.

I'm saying we needed a player or the offense to wow people. He was the best skill player on the field for sure but he wasn't dominate like Zeke or Hyde were in big games. The ability to just hand the ball off and not need 3 or 4 downs to get 10 yards. If we ended the game by marching down the field with Dobbins picking up 5 yards a carry, that's the kind of wow factor we needed. Dobbins was a big reason why we won that game but nothing about yesterday's games left us with a statement to the committee.

This is a tough spot for the committee. Alabama really has no good argument to be in. They have no good wins unless you want to count LSU. They didn't win their division, let alone conference. They lost the last game they played (to a team that got drilled the next week). They scheduled Mercer at the end of the season.

So no conference title, weak schedule, no statement wins. They just have the fact that they are Alabama and OSU had a disaster in Iowa.

Why is it a given that Wisky is out of the runnning, but Bama is in? Wisconsin has basically the same profile with a better loss.

The committee shifts the goalposts every year, so who knows. Quality of wins and conference titles matter when they support their picks, but something else matters when they don't. If they come out and say we think Alabama would beat OSU tonight if they played, I can live with that. I just don't want some BS story about Alabama earning the spot by what they accomplished.
