Eh, my opinion on the matter is that you were awarded a scholarship to play football for the university. I'm fully in favor of players who are NFL-bound choosing not to play (as long as you're not in the CFP), but you are also breaching the reason you got your scholarship because you're refusing to play for your school. You should have to forfeit/pay-back some of that scholarship money to the university, or donate something, or whatever.

Making him pay for the hotel and flight is asinine.

I don't blame players for sitting out. The college football playoffs made bowl games way less meaningful.

I actually think the committee will be pushed to expand the playoffs based off of tv rating for bowl games in the coming years. I use to love watching bowl games, now I just watch the Buckeyes and the playoffs.
