2017 Draft Prospects Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Hooker is a raw athlete now? That's news.

You don't become a consensus top 10 pick in a draft loaded with elite defensive talent by being a raw athlete. You "fall" into the second round, like a true raw athlete that thinks he can play safety (I think we all know who I'm referring to here).

Who is a good comp for Hooker?

What NFL safety was a raw athlete heading in to the NFL that succeeded?

What makes him a raw athlete? Doesn't that insinuate that he didn't produce or lacked fundamentals? I'm not a Buckeye fan, or even a big football guy, but I'd say a more apt description of Hooker would be "ball hawking" rather than "raw athlete."

Was Ed Reed a raw athlete coming out of Miami? That seems to be the most common comp I see for Hooker.

Raw athletes don't make plays like this.

Struck a nerve with all the Buckeyes in here. :chuckle:

Maybe I phrased that wrong......I've seen many people call him raw, I would guess because he lacks experience?

I know he makes plays but I was just curious who a good NFL comp was who lacked the traditional college experience at a position like safety and went on to have a great career.

Call him a dirty pirate hooker for all I care. Drop that stock by any means necessary so its easier for us to go and get him.

He was polished.

Hooker is just an unpolished Ed Reed with less tackling ability.

...the Browns could easily build an amazing, young defensive core that could be our staple for the next decade and really alter Cleveland football for the better.

The best 1-2 draft the Browns have had was 2010, when they took Haden and TJ Ward. They moved into starting roles early and for the first time in aong time I felt something good was going to happen, watching those two back there in preseason games. It felt like a change was coming. Haden was wisely aggressive, batted balls away like he knew what he was doing. Ward looked like a player. The defense ranked 13th that year, but then they fired Mangini and brought in Shurmer and we pressed the reset button again.

But that was a good feeling, for a while. I'd like to have it again. I think nabbing Hooker or Adams would make it happen.

Not sure how the raw athlete mantra came to be associated with his inexperience. Seems lazy...Hooker has excellent hands and excellent coverage skills. He made plays all over the field last year, often running to the opposite side of the field to make a play on the ball. That tells me he is great at reading the QB....his instincts are ELITE, which separates him from others, IMO. The tackle issues is mostly due to the fact that he preferred to go low on guys...maybe due to his size? However, he still made plays in space countless times, regardless of if it was a high vs. a low tackle.

Complete disclosure: I am a huge Buckeye fan. However, i hadn't seen a player like Hooker in an OSU uniform in a long time.
