2017 Free Agent Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I think the focus here is on really high character guys. Guys that have been to the post-season and have played for winning organizations.

It's all about building that culture and locker room for such a young team like this. Precisely why I was so happy they decided to go with a complete rebuild this time around.
We tried that with Donte Whitner and a couple other guys. I'd rather get a younger guy who is hungry to win. (And has some talent of course,)

The problem with Whitner, Dansby, etc is that they were washed up. I think the FO is looking for guys just entering their prime coming off of their 1st contracts who have been apart of winning orgs.

Someone like a Jamie Collins, but cheaper of course. :)

Depending on cost, had a great year in 2015 (mainly due to injuries and he had to step in) but with the regular guys all coming back, plus the Ravens signing Mike Wallace, he disappeared.

Aiken is solid, I'm thinking this is more of a Browns have money, let's link our players to them for leverage type play by his agent though. He doesn't seem to fit the mold the Browns are looking for as he wasn't really a mega producer in college and he's not a crazy athlete either. I guess you could argue he's coming into his prime at 27?

It'll be interesting to see their FA moves and try and add some more data points to get a better feel for this Front Office.

Teams that have expressed interest so far in free agent center Nick Mangold have asked if he'd be willing to move to guard, per sources. So far, he's held off, waiting for an opportunity to continue his career at center.

You think? He's 33, I don't really see how that fits what the Browns have done under Sashi.

It's just a huge need for us at this point. Even if we are targeting young guys in the draft, Mangold would be an effective stop-gap for 1-2 years while providing us with a stable vet in the locker room the young guys good look to for growth. Mangold is known as the consummate professional and he's Ohio-born. Never hurts to have those guys on your team, IMO.

Wasn't he hurt really bad last year? If that is the case, him being 33 doesn't help that cause. Especially with him wanting $$.

I mean if he medically checks out, why the hell not. But don't overpay.

It was initially only an ankle sprain but be rehabbed too vigorously against doctor's orders, which led to further injuring the ankle. Prior to the injury he had only missed 4 games his whole career.

Could be a target but no way to know yet if this is referencing us

Hard pass on Mangold. Those are the signings to stay away from. Injury prone, wrong side of 30, and would take an overpay to get him here.
