2017 Free Agent Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Steve Smith had that wicked injury and propelled Aiken to get force fed. Perriman was also hurt.

Fast forward a year later where the injuries are recovered, throw in Mike Wallace then all of a sudden Aiken is the 4th man. Baltimore also uses their TE's so in reality Aiken is the forgotten man. Steve Smith doesn't come off the field either. Flacco developed trusty chemistry with Wallace too, him and Smith were his go to targets.

Anyways regarding Aiken potentially becoming a Brown, he'd be an hell of an asset with sleeper potential. He was a darling pickup to fantasy users that year, I'd like to see him be the #3 here.

He would fit well and if healthy an upgrade to Hawkins, I would have no issue as you can never have to many WRs who have some upside.

Pretty clear what happened regarding Pryor.

*Browns offered Pryor a multi-year deal worth a little over $8M per year, believing that's where his market was at.

*Pryor wanted close to $15M per year, an absurd number, especially when considering AB just signed an extension at $17M per year.

*Turns out the Browns were right and Pryor's market wasn't as big as he and Rosenhaus played it up/thought it to be.

*Pryor still didn't believe his market was at $8M, so the Browns turned to Britt, while still negotiating with Pryor.

*Pryor still didn't believe his market was at $8M, so he visits Washington and leaves with no contract.

*Pryor doesn't go back to Browns after receiving Washington's 1/8 offer, nullifying what people are saying regarding "why didn't the Browns go to 1/10"

Really don't see how anyone can blame the Browns whatsoever. Pryor clearly didn't want to be here as badly as he claimed he did.
One would think even with the dysfunction of the Redskins situation, that by being in the NFC east and in that market they would in theory generate more nationally televised games against teams like the Cowboys and Giants-- coupled with the fact that Cousins is the QB (at the moment)....Would definitely make more sense to play there for 1 year as opposed to the Browns....

So I'm pretty sure after receiving that Redskins offer there was no way the agent went back to the Browns to ask them to match or exceed (even tho the reports were he really wanted to be with the Browns) -- only way he was playing for the Browns on a 1 year deal was if they tagged him otherwise it was either multi year at his number vs multi year/1 year with someone else.

So basically playing with an established quality QB in a better market trumped his desire to be a Brown ultimately...

Now in the event if the agent did actually go back to the Browns and ask them to match or exceed the Redskins offer on a 1 year deal ?? The Browns would have dropped the ball considering they are no longer tanking and not in a position to turn down quality players based on their own stubbornness--- however, I don't believe they were ever given a 1 year option from Pryor and his agent and never went back after the Redskins offer...

Kamar Aikin is bad, I don't know why they'd be interested in him.

Aiken is just another guy.

I agree, I would rather see if a guy like Higgins or Louis progresses from year one to year two versus signing Aiken to play in front of any of them.

I saw a few tweets about Martin when he was first cut and before the browns picked him up. They mostly said that he was not a great player and that he doesn't even like football so I'm not sure if he's gonna be a great.

I would post the tweets but I'm on my phone and have no idea how to embed. Sorry :(

I think his agent is most to blame in this situation. He didn't evaluate the market properly. I wouldn't be surprised if Pryor fires him going into next off-season once he realized he isn't going to get the 2 million in incentives.

Another reason his agent didn't go back to the Browns to match, Pryor would have easy access to the front office and the reasons why he was evaluated at 8 million. This would just make his agent look bad and look like he didn't do his research. The long term contract would also hang over his head more with the Browns than the Redskins if injury or anything happens. All just a reminder to fire his agent.

I'm guessing we won't get much if any comp picks next year due to our big money signings anyways, but I'm just curious what Pryor's deal would net us? Does it go by salary and length or does production factor into it?

If we don't draft a WR I would easily pick up Aiken. Won't be big $ and we know he can "be there" if Higgins/who the fuck else doesn't pan out.

He has proven he can eclipse almost 1000yds, and hopefully with our rejuvenated OL, Myles getting 8 sacks/gm, and hopefully decent QB play, our WR corps can do something.

In other news, 26 year old safety T.J. McDonald from Gregg Williams's Rams defense is still out there and coming off a good year in coverage.

Benjamin took the same route last year and ended up putting up significantly worse numbers. Pryor got really fortunate that Gordon was suspended and Coleman got hurt. By default, he was the #1 option here and got more targets because of it.

Browns had him pegged at the correct value. My issue with Pryor is he's soon to be 28 and only has one year of experience at WR. Can he develop his route running ability before his athletic ability fades?

For the last 2-3 years, he's a guy that no one but the Browns wanted. I think he winds up signing a series of 1-2 year deals for the rest of his career unless he can show some major development this season as a WR. If he were still 24, it'd be a different story. I'm sure the Browns figured they were better off spending the time, money, and energy developing some of the young WR's already on the team than devoting a bunch of resources to a guy that might have has his best year at WR.

In fairness to Benjamin, he was on his way to having a pretty good year until he got injured in Week 9. Through 8 weeks he had 38-509-3. Either he got lost in the shuffle afterwards or never came back right.

The Browns were between a rock and a hard place with Pryor, they really needed to see one more year of health and production to be willing to pay him what his agent is seeking, but bc he was @ FA they were out of options. It really is on his agent and him that he had to settle for what he did- with his injury history, passing up the longer deal with us for the one year could easily blow up in his face. I understand his loss and I think the team did ok in relieving him with Britt. Would have much rather had him and Britt but oh well.

This doesn't mean, however, that Pryor's ability had been replaced or will be replaced easily. Team used 4 picks on WRs a year ago and will have to go fishing again in the draft. Not very efficient.

Not convinced of this at all. Especially with Britt in the fold.

I think they're going to see what they have in their 2nd year kids and hope one of them steps up to be the No. 3.
