2017 Series #35 -|- Indians @ Rays -|- August 10th-13th

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Bruce is definitely relaxed like he said he was. Maybe he was reading Sportscoach posts for inspiration to stay on the roster.

Great job by Bruce and Santana to produce that run.

It's nice picking up a professional hitter for dirt cheap--he's such an upgrade over Almonte.

Yeah. And I think maybe the best thing for Jay Bruce is that, rather than being expected to be the guy offensively, he's basically what amounts to a 6th/7th option regardless his spot in the line up.

I'd like to think pressure off is something really good for an average hitter with great power.

With Zimmer struggling like he is, I wonder if he'll find himself being inserted in a game in the 7th inning pretty soon.

I'm curious what a Lonnie playing in CF can produce both offensively and defensively. Will he give us a run but also give up a run?

IIRC, he played like 40 games there this year, and I don't remember him playing poorly?

Lonnie played surprisingly well in CF to start the year.

It still scares me, and I don't feel comfortable with it. I think that, absolute worst case, Zimmer is your #9 hitter. There's no reason to not give him the chance to work through this.

Out of the 52 players who have played at least 160 innings in CF defensively, Lonnie ranks 41st in UZR, 37th in range runs saved, 8th in RZR % (% of balls hit into his zone he catches), and 30th in DRS.

Zimmer, for comparison, is 7th in UZR, 39th in range runs saved, 7th in RZR %, and 21st in DRS.

Zimmer is the better CF defensively, but Lonnie is the better bat against RHP. Wouldn't be surprised to see them favor the bat over the defensive improvement, though I would like to see Zimmer continue to develop at the MLB level.
