Brown and Griffin wanted Bennett. That is fact. Gilbert had too many cooks. The head coach was in the end given to much power in drafting, which TT, Waiters and Bennett got thumbs up from.
I agree that Grant definitely deferred to Mike Brown and Byron Scott. One of the main jobs of a GM is to draft though so deferring to others to make that decision isn't a good thing. The blame of drafting Bennett ultimately fell on Grant because he had final say on it. If Grant wanted no part of Bennett, he should have trusted that instinct and drafted someone else. It was his job on the line and ultimately lost it because of Bennett and other decisions.
Saying he wanted no part of Bennett is overstating his position. He might not have wanted to draft him but he didn't feel strongly enough to follow thru on it.
