2018 Draft Prospects Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The four guys you’ve mentioned are very bad candidates for LT.

None of them should be expected to fill that role, IMO.

I’m open to other alternatives, but those four guys are bad potential left tackles.

You might have missed the part where I mentioned signing a veteran at OT. If they grab someone at the level of Breno Giacomini to man the right side and give Shon Coleman a shot at the left until Thomas is healthy for example. They can see if Coleman tightened up his penchant for false starts early in the preseason, if he seems ready he keeps the job on the right. If not, Coleman becomes the third OT when Thomas is back.

They might just go with drafting an OT, but the college game hasn't done a great job preparing tackles the past few years. I'd prefer a free agent, take a shot in the draft in a year if need be.

You’ve got Billy Price or Quenton Nelson sitting there, I’m not passing them up.

They’re cornerstone type talents. Two of the best interior lineman in the last decade.

If Bitonio can play that LT spot, it’s a no brainer. As opposed to Breno Giancomini? Not even a discussion, for me.

But this is all contingent on Thomas calling it a career.

I thought they would try that experiment when Joe went down, but instead they kept Bitonio at left guard...and you find yourself with an asset in the 4th overall pick invested in three elite guards on the roster, counting on one of them playing left tackle. Maybe they try it, but the degree of difficulty goes up if they already experimented with Bitonio at left tackle up to this point without convincing success.

I'd also like to point out our opinions are pretty much worthless, Dorsey is going to do whatever he sees is best. I just want to see free agency used wisely under this front office, and I see offensive tackle depth as a place to use free agency.

I think the Bitonio contract is proof that—with the last regime at least—he has the ability to slide out to tackle.

He makes half of what Kevin Zeitler makes per year at the other guard spot. I don't think this logic holds water.

They signed him to a 5 year, $51 million extension last offseason despite his injury history because of what they see in him.

Zeitler hit free agency and got top dollar—5 years, $60 million from us to get him to pick us.

That’s hardly half.

But I get your point that the compensation can’t be used as a clue to their plans for him.

Six years, $51 million for Bitonio, averages a few million less per year than Zeitler, and Zeitler had double in guaranteed money:

But the overall point is that salary doesn't equate position, especially since the Browns were clearly willing to give big money to a career guard in Zeitler.

I'm in no way against Bitonio playing left tackle. Maybe that wasn't clear. I'm just looking at what happened after Joe got hurt. If there's any time to give him left tackle reps, it was the second half of last season.

Bitonios deal was also massively front loaded with a huge salary increase and roster bonus built in to his pre-existing final year if his rookie deal. He can be cut after thus season(if he had another major injury for example) for almost zero dead money on the 2019 cap

Ragnow is getting first round chatter now.

I’m not as big on Billy Price as others. He holds up well at point of attack, but the special guys have that ability to get to the next level. I think OSU interior lineman have really benefited from amazing RB’s behind them and a system that excels at downhill running, and then exploits a contained defensive rush.

Surprisingly, Elflein graded pretty average to poor this year.

I love Daniels from Iowa. Think he’s going to be a very good one, and while not as physically strong as Price, has better feet and mobility.

Totally disagree with you about Billy Price. Go ask GB how Cory Linsley worked out. Go ask the Colts how Jack Mewhort worked out. Go ask the Vikings how Pat Elflein worked out. Now Billy Price wins the Remington award as the best center in College football, and wins offensive linemen of the year in the Big Ten and you say this about him???? LOL.....okay

There are a million reasons to like a draft prospect, but comparing them to other players just because they went to the same school is among the worst.

Linsley and Eflein both underwhelmed this year. I think because Pat played on an amazing team, he’s getting credit he may not be due. By most measures, he was the worst offensive lineman on Minny’s unit.

Linsley had a great rookie year, but trended down this year.

Take away Linsley and Elflein....I think Price is very limited. He holds up very well at point of attack but is not the fleetest of foot. And I love the Buckeyes.... it’s not a knock on him just cause....I just can’t keep jink he’s insanely strong, but lacks that second level ability.

I dont agree.

Clearly we should Draft Elijah Sindelar in the first when he comes out because he is the Next Drew Brees.

PS, i am not sure most Purdue fans know who Elijah Sindelar is, lol.
