2018 NFL Draft - Day 1

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Where's the day 2 thread? Is it silly to want 2 of Landry, Jackson, Guice? Anybody on the Jackson train to solidify the DB group?

That's not simply dumb, it's malpractice. He has a 37 year old QB on a team that isn't going anywhere, he has an opportunity to draft arguably the best QB to come out since Luck and he elects not to. In his place he takes a frickin running back which might be the worst value you can possible take. In addition he could have easily traded down with the Broncos at 5 who would have moved up for Darnold and STILL gotten Barkley. If I were a Giants fan I would be furious!

It's like the wishful thinking "Lamar Jackson is the same caliber as Rosen/Darnold but will just happen to drop to the late 1st."

Love that point. It's basically assuming that the rest of the league is stupid, and you're the smartest guys in the room. If you think a guy is worth a pick, grab him, even if you think you can get him later. Because if he's worth the pick, there's a good chance some other team has figured that out as well.

He has issues, but if you are not in a positon to draft a top qb, Lamar could be a good project to draft.

Dont get me wrong, there is zero situation for the browns, but someone like New England or New Orleans that have a need for a qb in 2 or 3 years but not now would be perfect.

It's not that he's not a good project to draft. It's just that if he's a good project to draft, you can't rely on him being there when you get to pick again.

most people have

1) darnold/rosen
3)mayfield

4)allen

right now it appears the browns have

1)mayfield
2)darnold
3?
4?

Not to criticize you, but given that Rosen was the 4th QB taken, it is apparent now that "most people" meant "pundits and fans", not "NFL teams". Seems to happen every year where there is a fan/pundit consensus that proves to be wrong. I'm just as guilty as everyone else in making the same mistake every year....

what you started."

Interesting photos -- Mayfield clearly spent time in the gym that pencil-armed Manziel did not. Hopefully, that is indicative of a lot more dedication to his craft.

In fairness, one of the things most notable about Wilson was his leadership. He'd show up, and other players would instantly gravitate towards him. Mayfield apparently has that as well.
Mayfields teammates would run through a wall for him. If he wasnt such a leader no way the browns take him.

The fact that he was a walk-on two different schools and rose quickly to be the starting QB is encouraging. That doesn't happen just because of your personality. There has to be some serious underlying talent there that your new teammates and coaches notice. I wanted Darnold, but the truth is that all of our views here are shaped largely by what we read, written by pundits who aren't good enough to get NFL jobs. Even if you watch a lot of games, you're not going to have the insight the GM's get from the interviews, background, white board work, etc..

So, I'm going to watch this kid play before making up my mind as to whether or not he was the right pick.

Speaks to work ethic too. He's never been handed a starting job and has always had to earn it.

He may bust, but if he doesn't, he's going to be the favorite player of everyone here in a few years.

And I have to admit, the thought of Mayfield bombing it downfield to Gordon gives me a bit of a boner.

The lack of gloating (to this point) from statman is an unexpected bonus. But honestly, if he keeps pulling the "Browns fans are so stupid" schtick, I think he should be bounced. Repeatedly insulting an entire fan base contributes less than nothing.

Craziest stat I saw all night: Rashaad Penny averaged over 1 YPC more than Josh Allen's YPA in the same conference.

Not sure about you, but I can go back through my entire social media history and I never posted "heil" to a Hitler account, never called anyone a faggot, and never used the n-word. And I finished high school fifteen years ago. I posted some embarrassing shit, no doubt, but nothing as obscene or hateful as Allen's tweets from only four years ago.

Making excuses for Allen is a fucking joke.

Yet you're labeling the kid a racist and hoping he's a failure because of a few tweets he made when he was 16. I mean that's pretty extreme, no?

I do sort of feel bad for Allen. He went to a terrible situation for him.

OTOH, he did give everyone a heil Hitler so fuck em.
