Player Bio
Marquez (mar-KWEZ) was an all-state pick from St. Petersburg, Fla., who helped his future USF teammate (cornerback Rodney Adams) win a state track title for Lakeview High as a senior. He decided to go to North Carolina State in 2013, however, making an impact there as a freshman with three starts in 10 games played (22 receptions, 281 receiving yards, missed two games with an injury). Valdes-Scantling played in all 13 games with the Wolfpack in 2014, starting the team's first eight games (22 receptions, 257 yards, one touchdown). His lack of action in the second half of the year due to a change in the team's offensive scheme, caused him to transfer back home to USF. He redshirted in 2015 as a transfer student, then exploded on the scene in 2016, starting all 13 games and covering 415 yards and scoring five times on just 22 catches (18.9 yards per reception). Valdes-Scantling set a record for the young program with 879 receiving yards in 2017, leading the team with 53 receptions and scoring six touchdowns.

Overview
Height, weight, speed prospect with intriguing deep ball capabilities as a big field stretcher. Valdes-Scantling is a work in progress who hasn't learned how to create leverage within his linear routes and doesn't have the ball skills he will need to win downfield. He's probably not ready to help a team just yet, but his issues may be correctable so he's worth a Day 3 selection as a stash-and-coach prospect.

Strengths
  • Possesses size and speed traits evaluators look to develop
  • Pushes off the line of scrimmage with good forward lean to build momentum into downfield routes
  • Long strider with build-up speed that eventually overtakes most cornerbacks
  • Saw 26.4 percent of his catches go for 25-plus yards
  • Poor deep ball placement from his quarterback prevented more easy touchdowns
Weaknesses
  • Routes lack sharpness and consistent play speed
  • Gives away stop routes prematurely
  • Slow to gather and redirect in space
  • Anchors on hitches and curls rather than working back to the throw
  • Too much body catching
  • Hands are small for his size and he suffers from focus drops
  • Gets deep but his ball skills down the field are lacking
  • Fails to utilize size to gain position
Sources Tell Us

"His issues look coachable to me. You don't know what he was being taught, but he's big and can run so you take that and then just get those routes right." -- Former NFL Pro Bowl receiver

Why?
Because it's the Raiders and they have to take a raw, height/weight/speed WR.

Oakland's Draft:
1-10 (10): Roquan Smith, LB, Georgia
2-9 (41): Ronald Jones II, RB, USC
3-11 (75): Lorenzo Carter, OLB, Georgia
4-10 (110): Nathan Shepard, DT, Fort Hayes State
5-22 (159): Kyle Lauletta, QB, Richmond
5-36 (173): Marquez Valdes-Scantling, WR, South Florida

@MGMT to close it out!

Since I'm closing things out for the Packers, I'm going to award them one of the late round sleepers I really believe the draft process slept on this past spring:

Darrel Williams, RB, LSU
Height 6'1, Weight 229
40 yard dash 4.59 at Pro Day

Why?

Let's start with the fact Green Bay starts a college receiver at running back, Ty Montgomery, and last year didnt go well. Williams is one hell of a teammate. He backed up Fournette, then backed up Guice. When one of them was hurt and Williams got the start, he was very productive. He ended his senior season as the second leading receiver at LSU, and contributed to all the special teams units. In the Senior Bowl he impressed coaches, which had to be bittersweet for the reliable guy who never complained.

That concludes our draft! Thanks to all participants!

And that's a wrap!

Thank you to everyone who participated in this year's mock! The information you all bring to the table with your picks is as good as any fan mock I've seen.

Also, a special thanks to those of you with the wherewithal to stick around for all 5 rounds. It's always interesting to check this out come the Monday following the draft; I hope you join me in checking on how RCF performed.

Now that this has concluded, @The Wizard of Moz can finally go-on and ignore me. :chuckle:

Until 2019..

The Seahawks sign un-drafted free-agent Steven Richardson, DT, Minnesota.

Lotto ticket.

Somebody grade my draft (Arizona).

Also, the Arizona Cardinals have signed undrafted free-agent J.T. Barrett to teach these guys how to win.

I may be able to churn out some draft grades when I have a little down time. I can tell you right now I see Sam Bradford as the starter and you got stuck with rolling the dice on Chase Litton as his protege. Ouch. The real life Cards might get shut out of the top few tiers of QBs too. I'm not a Ridley in the 1st guy, some people see him as a #1 receiver but I personally don't. I thought your best value and need picks were O'Neill, Everett, and Hamilton.

The RCF Bengals had a pretty good night tonight.

As of now, I picked four real life first round picks, but I didn’t have any firsts in the RCF mock.

I chose:

DL Taven Bryan at 36, OL Frank Ragnow at 67, TE Hayden Hurst at 77 and DB Terrell Edmunds at 112.

That's impressive. I had Philly take Goedert with their first pick in the mock. They did, mind you after trading back. I'll take it lol

So far I called the 49ers drafting Fred Warner, Tarvarius Moore, and replacing Trent Brown. Everyone I drafted for the Niners has been drafted in real life by round 3. I also pulled the trigger on current Browns Denzel Ward and Austin Corbett. My biggest whiff remains not giving Baker Mayfield much love, but I had a good showing as the Niners fake GM.

Interested in what you think of my run as a first time GM.

Great showing for the most part, you knew the Seahawks needs inside and out. Your first two picks were great, and Gaulden in the fifth looked like a steal even before the real draft. I'm not as sold on Ateman and I'd like to see where he gets picked in real life, but solid draft.

Thanks! Good to know I didn't fuck it up.

A lot of people put in a lot of work for this fake draft.

An update for the RCF Bengals.

We took Malik Jefferson, LB out of Texas, and so did the real life Bengals!

Not a bad draft process for our squad. Lol.

...At what point should we acknowledge you had a full 20% of all picks made in this mock draft after your trade down?

Don't worry, I am a teacher but I don't teach math. Our future is safe. You made so many goddamn picks!
