2018 Trade Deadline

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Remember when the small market Royals went all in and traded their top draft pick for Cueto? Which resulted in a WS win and Cueto twirling a complete game. Sometimes you gotta do what you have to do. Yeah, I get it, Harper would have 20 meaningful at bats, but that one HR could mean something.

Also a lineup that has Lindor, Brantley, Ramirez, Harper somewhere in the lineup, let alone the top 4-5, makes it pretty scary. Also I would think that would give the guys a boost and take off some of the pressure on them as well. Shoot, if you knew you had a guy like Harper behind you in the lineup, you wouldn't put as much pressure on yourself to get a big hit since he is behind you. It could relax this ball club also by getting him. Now I have no clue how he is in the locker room though.

That'd be a pretty damn intimidating lineup to have to get through in a playoff series, yikes . . .

Barraclough's numbers are fantastic.

I'd rather have Dietrich/Barraclough than Harper, assuming the price is even. I'm not sure it is, though.

Absolutely will

Maybe. But when you can add a masher type bat and fill a defensive need in one swoop, it should be considered.
The other option is slowly draining the minor league system for slight upgrades under team control.
The clock is ticking on Lindor. Others are coming into FA (Allen, Miller, Bauer etc).
They hit Lightning’s in a bottle two years ago and couldn’t finish it.
Does Harpers bat make this team significantly better? Under wAR, this year maybe not. But his line becomes one of the better bats in the lineup, and he gets rid of the freaking revolving door in the OF.
If Shane Bieber is the asking price, I’m damn tempted- esp with McKenzie moving up so quickly.

I miss the old days of staying up til 11pm/Midnight and watching Baseball Tonight and finding all the trades live on TV.
Those were the days!

I don't love this as an example.

Hindsight is 20/20 since all three prospects ended up flaming out pretty hard, but even at the time the Royals didn't really give up a massive package for Cueto. They got the Royals No. 4 prospect in Finnegan and two lower level guys. Feels like the Indians would likely have to give up more than that to get Harper.

Beyond the price, Cueto was pretty much at the apex of his ability when the Royals acquired him whereas Harper is producing at a much lower level than his peak. Feels like the Indians would be somewhat gambling on a return to form if they brought Harper in.

I do, however, readily admit that Harper's current production is still significantly better than what Chisenhall, Naquin, Allen, Zimmer, Cabrera and Guyer have been able to produce so he'd be an upgrade either way over what they've trotted out there.

IF you had to trade the same amount for Harper as you would for a guy like Merrifield from the Royals, who would you choose?

I mean personally I would pay a little more for control than just pay so much for a Harper who we all know will play for the highest bidder next season. My hunch is we are going for the top guy we can rather than just sit and get who we know we can get easily.

Seems like we have been rumored with McCutchen, Harper, Dietrich while also the relievers Ziegler and Carraclough. I don't see the true CF we have been looking for in the other rumors. Harper is decent at CF, but that hasn't been his main position. I wonder if who we are going to acquire isn't in the rumor mill, but we are just putting out a smokescreen for the guy we are really looking to get?

"We didn't like the offers that were made so we never really wanted to trade Bryce"
They dangled his name and were underwhelmed.

This could be us in the future regarding Lindor, who knows.

Nationals will be a top bidder resigning him, we won't be! We would have to take the best deal with lindor, while they can gamble on him walking since they will put money into trying to keep him!
