2018 Tribe bullpen discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
People are starting to take notice. In the wake of last night's game, here's two Boston-centric articles that note the effectiveness of the Indians' bullpen:

Boston fans bemoaning the loss nitpicked the hell out of their pen in relation to our 3-headed monster of Miller-Hand-Allen.

I asked weeks ago if we should pick up another arm and I still think that should be in our periphery. But Miller returning back to '16 form would be the biggest acquisition.

Speaking of Miller, most people here consider him as good as gone next year. But do you see any scenario where we retain him? Maybe more postseason success and playing under Francona are persuasive arguments for him? Maybe he likes Cleveland enough to leave a little money on the table? I think he should be our top priority in the offseason after shedding some salary.

Maybe in a scenario where the Indians offer him the QO, which would be ~$18m and he decides to run it back one more time.

Wade Davis got 3 yrs $52m guaranteed last season. Barring any setbacks this season, I think Miller will get deal similar to that. It would be foolish financially to turn down that kind of guaranteed money at his age (34 in May) with the nagging injuries he's had the past 2 seasons.

Wade Davis was also younger, and coming off a healthy, and very good season for the Cubs.

Also, the Rockies off-season last year might prove to be a cautionary tale for teams moving forward with bullpen spending.

Given how this year has gone for Miller, and the lingering leg issues for the last two years, I would think 2 years $35m would be the most any team would be willing to give him right now.

Given injuries and inconsistencies this season, I wouldn’t be at all shocked if one or both of Cody Allen and Andrew Miller pitched themselves down to a more feasible price range for the Indians.

I still think they’re both probably gone, but I do see a little bit larger window of opportunity to keep them in the fold than I did at the beginning of the year.

Ramirez is on the DL! Time for Tomlin to get the last bullpen spot! :chuckle:

I still feel we need to bring in another arm here soon as well, but the deadline is a week away so we shall see!

I think we still may bring in a Reliever in the next day since, Allen isn't back to normal, Miller back to being hurt, so we need another veteran out there that can really help us out.
