2019 Browns Off Season/Roster Discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
It is early but his reliance on his legs early is really concerning. 170 pass attempts and 147 rush attempts is simply not a viable formula for long term success. Defenses will adjust to his speed and force him to beat them with the pass. Not to mention, injuries will happen if he puts himself in harms way by running so often. I don't have a lot of confidence he can win from the pocket. It's possible, he has tools, but I don't find it likely.

I like Lamar as a prospect, he has arm strength, but yes he is a 50% chance of working out because of the heavy reliance on the run.

But some of these guys are just being biased against him for no reason. He is fun to watch imo, but yes he does run way to much, lol.

I want LB or CB in the 2nd, the other in the 3rd and RT in the 4th,

Of course I will take what Dorsey drafts because I have no choice, but if up to me, lol.

I've said this before and @Smooth wrote a post supporting it, but when Dorsey takes an offensive tackle, he takes one earlier. I agree with Dorsey doing this because it's like drafting a 6'10 guy in hoops earlier than later... the Earth doesn't produce enough pure athletes at that size and eventually the prospects just aren't worth developing. I can live with waiting on another position to start grooming another eventual starter at tackle behind Robinson and Hubbard.

If you can honestly 100% say to me if you were taking a QB, has to be before you fill out the rest of your roster, there are 27 guys you would take before you took him for the coming season then fine.

I absolutely cannot do that.

Just for this season? Not based on long-term potential? There's easily 26 here that I don't even think are arguable.
  1. Brady
  2. Darnold
  3. Roethlisberger
  4. Baker
  5. Dalton
  6. Watson
  7. Luck
  8. Foles
  9. Mahomes
  10. Rivers
  11. Carr
  12. Dak
  13. Wentz
  14. Trubisky
  15. Cousins
  16. Rodgers
  17. Stafford
  18. Brees
  19. Ryan
  20. Newton
  21. Goff
  22. Wilson
  23. Garoppalo
  24. Rosen
  25. Kyler Murray
  26. Dwayne Haskins
Then you get down to "arguable" QB's
  1. Josh Allen
  2. Alex Smith
  3. Tyrod Taylor
  4. Ryan Fitzpatrick
  5. Marcus Mariota
  6. Jameis Winston
  7. Eli Manning
  8. Joe Flacco
I would put him somewhere in that group. I'd probably take Lamar over all of those guys, but I have no problem if someone prefers any of those guys (except maybe Eli and Tyrod) to Lamar Jackson.

Wait, I thought Mariota was decent. What happened

This Foles take is just so fucking laughably bad. Remember what happened last time he played outside the Eagles RPO?

Haskins, Murray, Rosen? What are we doing here? We’ve never seen these guys perform an offense at Jackson’s level in the NFL...

Trubisky? Carr? Garappolo? Dak? Maybe?? I’d still rather have Jackson.

Also Dalton is a sure as fuck no.

Lamar has the physical tools to be a good passer in the league but hopefully he has the work ethic and football IQ to grow in that regard.

If he never develops a legitimate passing game, I don't see him lasting long.

For the record, I think Dak is trash. He is terrible under pressure. He has the weapons now so I'd expect him to bounce back but if he doesn't, he's got career backup written all over him.

Man this discussion is proof we need more Browns news.

He’s proven literally nothing as a passer in the NFL — albeit at the expense of being intentionally limited by his coaching staff. It isn’t outlandish to say average or even slightly below average passers have a more productive and proven body of work at this point; why that would offend or bother anyone is beyond me. The guy took 16 sacks with hardly any drop backs with 7 YPA.

The league has film on the options now; if he doesn’t learn the cognitive component of the position, he’ll be on the Terrell Pryor path fast.

Wasn’t Foles only real starting experiment under Jeff Fisher? The same Jeff Fisher that made Goff look like trash?

To be fair, he also shit the bed in four games under Andy Reid with the Chiefs.

Physical tools? What like a functioning arm? You could say that about every qb. He has the throwing motion of a middle school cheerleader. That’s not going to change.

Wow guys. Lamar was sprung into action unexpectedly. They kept it simple and utilized his strengths, and they made the playoffs.

To try to project this guy is incredibly difficult. I don’t understand the obsession with it. Let’s not crown them and let’s not assume that since SD shut them down for 3 quarters, they have been figured out.

They need WR more than anything. Hopefully they fuck up the draft and all of them bust.
