2019 Browns Off Season/Roster Discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Burnett isn’t that good. Not a fan. Hope we draft someone early.

He's not "that" good, but he's an NFL starter, probably cheap, and allows the Browns to go BPA with their picks.

I would expect that at some point the Browns WILL take safety, but Burnett and Murray is more than enough to fill the gaps for this year.

While we still need to draft someone at safety, Burnett and Murray should complement each other very well.

This is a position that we can clearly upgrade, but we just filled a huge safety hole with two solid NFL players--one younger and one a little more seasoned.

Burnett has excelled against the run in the past, and Murray is a former corner. Even if we fail to add someone in the draft, we are at least set at the position for the season.

Not sure why you got a disagree. He's not that good, and I'm not a huge fan of his.

But it's a good signing. Cheap, veteran quality player. I'm all about filling holes in the roster, and safety was one of them.
He got a disagree from me because he's overwhelmingly negative while failing to recognize that he's an actual NFL starting safety with strengths against the run.

Like it or not, we are now better at safety than we were 2 hours ago. And it's likely a cheap 2 year deal that can be escaped from next offseason, not impacting our desire to draft a safety whatsoever.

I agree with everything said here. Guess it comes down to interpretation of his previous post.

Not a fan of Burnett and hope we still look for a better safety? The guy's fine, but there's certainly room for improvement? Agree

Not a fan of this signing? Fuck outta here.

That post is from 2017.. he’s 30 now. What he did from 2012-2016 doesn’t matter anymore DBs fall off a cliff quickly at 30.

What do we mean by starter? Starter on our team? Likely correct. Starter and solid in the past? Yeah. He wasn't a starter last year though. Underwhelming rookie started over him all season. He only had 17 tackles.

Don't hate the move as it does make us better, but like most, still hope we look to upgrade.

1) That was showing how good he's been against the run his entire career. I acknowledged that it was a few years old when I said "in the past."

2) They don't necessarily fall-off a cliff against the run.

3) Stop being negative for the sake of being negative without adding anything useful to the forum.

4) We added a solid run-stuffing safety to complement Murray. We are better now.

5) Dorsey, in no way, is letting a short term veteran signing determine what he does in the draft, so relax.

3) Stop being negative for the sake of being negative without adding anything useful to the forum.

Uhh, saying that an aging, run-stopping safety whose best years are behind him and didn't even start last year doesn't really do much for you is legitimate discussion. It's not "being negative for the sake of being negative without adding anything useful to the forum."

However, making multiple posts calling it such certainly is.

From PFF, he is ranked as the 53rd best safety in the NFL *includes both positions*, is graded as above average and was a positive in coverage last year.

Corners fall off at 30. Some guys can play safety well into their 30's anymore. He's a good, bargain signing. He'll compete with Murray, and then likely be replaced in a few years by a draft pick either this year or next year.

Not sure why anyone could possibly be upset over the signing.

"Doesn't really do much for you" or "meh" is one thing.

The words were "Not a fan" of this move. Which, with the cost, I'm not sure how we can be against signing a veteran safety who has been good against the run his entire career.

In fact, he's so good against the run, Pittsburgh played him as an inside linebacker out of position most of the year to get him on the field with Edmunds. He ended up getting injured--and as you state, he lost the starting job SS to a 1st round pick selected specifically for that job.

His best years are behind him, but as a complement to Murray, there's really nothing to dislike about it. Especially when it won't impact our draft.

It's not "being negative for the sake of being negative without adding anything useful to the forum." However, making multiple posts calling it such certainly is.

I'm going to leave this uncommented. It's for the best as it would take us down the rabbit hole.
