2019 Minor League Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
+ Defense at a premium position

Having a tougher time pinning down a comp offensively. He completely re-tooled his swing since getting to Cleveland so its tough to rely on older data to judge ceiling.

If he becomes a .750 OPS guy with that defense, you're looking at a quality starter.

2-4 WAR guy.

Right handed Ender Inciarte without the gold gloves?

What is Oscar Mercado's ceiling? I've been following him a bit the past few seasons, but he's getting a ton of attention since the start of this spring.

You were following him when he was in the Cardinals organization?

Honestly it is hard to say, he was drafted as a SS then was converted to the OF in 16, full time there in 17. He retooled his swing recently, so outside of watching his film from last year, and his swing this season, his projection is a lot harder to say than normal cause of the position change and retooling of his swing.

His athletic ability and current numbers say, floor will be a 4th OF type of guy since he has shown he is a very good CF and he is very good at stealing bases. Minor league numbers are odd since he is a right handed bat, who struggles to hit lefties but with the retooling of his swing, I don't think anyone has an exact idea on who he will be that way.

With Martin being our everyday CF at the moment, Mercado is kind of blocked since that is his best position. Next season though when we no longer have Martin, Mercado, Zimmer and Allen will essentially be fighting for the starting CF spot. I feel with how his spring was, I see him as an everyday CF in the bigs. Will bat in the 7-9 hole type, but will be a solid player.

I haven't slept in like 29 hours, I meant to say I haven't been following him much over the years and was wondering what his ceiling was since he's being talked about a lot lately :chuckle:

He crushed every single one of them, too.

His swing still...well it looks long to me.

@Derek

Do you see Karinchak getting pro time this season?

I almost feel like he will be with the big league club sometime this season, but without a doubt next season he will have a chance, if he stays healthy.

Tough to say, bullpens are so fluid throughout the season, so it wouldn't surprise me. I'm sure there are guys who gave us innings last year that I have completely forgotten about.

It’s not. About as short as you can get as a 6’6 guy. He keeps his bat in the hitting zone for a long time, which can make it look long, but he’s not long to the zone. Big difference between the 2, and a big reason why I can see his K numbers diving as he matures as a hitter.
